Importing MPL files
« on: July 28, 2005, 03:11:49 pm »

Was trying the below workflow for importing albums with CUE files.

- Add to playing now all the cue tracks.
- Rate/Analyse etc
- Export Playlist-->Save in MPL format (in the albums folder)

Then when i drag drop the mpl into playing now, the tags i populated beforeie rating or AA are absent.

If i try to import that MPL , the tracks are imported, again without the tag infos.

Why are the extra tags not taken into account ??

Even tho they are plainly visible in the MPL file.

Strange, when I drag an mpl file (of cue tracks) to playing now it populates all library fields correctly. Though I cannot right-click import the tracks from there. (bug...)

When I import the same mpl file by right-clicking in Drives & Devices or in Windows Explorer all fields are properly populated.

Could you post an example MPL file? I could try it. (I can use a copy of one of my own audio data files as the main file). Just specify the length of the album.

Yeah, i read that post by Padrino, he however refers to tracks that are already in the library. Expecting to modify existing tracks with a MPL file does not work.

So i made sure the tracks i was importing were not already imported as would happen when importing a new album.

Will try some more tests and post an MPL, Alex has always said this worked for him in his previous posts.

The idea i had with this workflow is that it makes handling cue albums similar to non-cue ones, in that one listens/rates/tags in the listen folder and then moves the album to its desired destination and only then do the import. MC is set to ignore the *.cue file and instead gets the CUE info from the MPL file, which also acts as backup for those settings.

This delays the move problem ie moving an already imported album with cue files.

OK , I had to restart MC and then it added the MPLs correctly into Playing Now. Also tested import of MPL into library and all changes took  ;D

In Summary
- add cue, to PN
- Rate/modify tags/AA.
- Save to MPL in the album's directory.
- Clear PN
- Drag MPL into Playing Now, did not show any updated tags.

On restarting MC and then dragging MPL into PN, all fields populated.

Strange bug  ?

Could this have something to do with the normally hidden Explorer database? MC empties it on exit/restart.

Ctrl+F > search: ~d=e

Edit

... or with the Playing Now database: ~d=t

I believe you are right on that, ~d=e shows the album in triplicate. I added/deleted 3 times. That is why PN was showing incorrect info.

On restart ~d=e was empty. Voila !!

I wonder if there is an option to disable this hidden database, as it can cause confusion (in my case anyway with no networked drives)

Another way of asking is when would this cache be useful ?

- My guess is for people with networked drives.
- Speeding up display of previously viewed items.

Hmmm...
