YADB FreeDb local machine search ability?
« on: October 03, 2002, 09:43:09 pm »

I broused the FreeDB site. Short and to the point, that is if you are more knowledgable about DBs than I. I downloaded the DB in a rar compressed file, and extracted it to a clean directory on my XP Pro machine and do not see how I could search this locally. I will be without internet service soon and until 1/05/03 so this would be great so newly ripped CDs will have the track data. Is there currently a way to do this? I would be willing to go to some effort obviously as hand entering the info or re ripping after next year would be a rather arduous task. Thanks.

Hi,
You may have noticed my post a few before yours... I too would like to see how to search CDDB locally. If you get an answer or figure it out I would appreciate it if you let me know

There is no way to do this with MJ and we don't plan to add it.

The only suggestion I can make is (while you do have an Internet connection) to insert your CD's long enough to have YADB recognize them, then rip them later.

Thanks for the quick candid answer JimH. I passed this on to Den via an e-mail.

I now rip using CDex (.OGG) which does allow for local CDDB lookups and do all my cataloging / playing analog recording etc. with Media Jukebox.
Words real well.

Did you mean local FreeDB lookups? CDDB doesn't allow local database lookups, except for a local "cache" which isn't needed by MJ since it caches CD data in it's own database.
