I have a 4g with the same updater and sw version as you and got it to work (although I'm still unable to upload successfully too many files in a single transfer).

ok maybe wasn't such an interesting thought after all. not sure what's up then, i've just resynced the ipod with 7000+ files without any problems - tho of course the album art feature still isn't working in any shape or form.

I did a restore with the 9/23/05 updater.  (4G 60GB ipod photo)
Initialized the ipod in MC.
Then sync'd my smartlists.
I just let it run overnight.
Albumart and other issues I was having are fine now.  I've removed the album art from the file tags and it's strictly getting them from folder.jpg now.

I hope apple didn't make more sweeping changes in the october firmware.

are you doing anything special (i.e. are you converting the files to mp3 before transferring to ipod) or is it just a straight transfer?

maybe i'll try again using the 9/23/05 updater later i'll report back.

I have to qualify something I've said before. I've said I had successfully transfered 1,500 files with album art, but many of my files (I'd say more than 50%) are displayed with the wrong cover on the iPod. I can't tell for sure what causes the issue but it seems to me that most of the files that display the correct cover were either transfered through short smartlists or  in a first batch of only 250 files.

straight transfer of VBR mp3 files, no conversion.  Cover art in folder.jpg and none inside the files.

Doing a sync with build 60 no cover arts were transfered. The iPod was initialized before sync. The cover arts disappeared after having synced with build 59. They were, however, transfered in build 58.

Covers are located in the profile folder.

No joy here using a 5G iPod with 11.1.60.  Tried ones where it was stored as "folder.jpg", stored in the file (both MP3 and M4A).  None of them worked.

For anyone who Album Art is not working for, please turn on logging for Handhelds and look for 'DetermineIpodType' and give me the IpodType: number. It should be something like M9585 or similar.

Thanks.

mine says:

P9586

hope this helps. i guess it's no coincidence either that in the Settings > About menu on the ipod the model is listed as P9586B.

From the about screen mine's a P9830B.  Sorry I can't say what's in the logger as I'm not at home.
