Gonna Repartition my HD
« on: June 27, 2003, 07:06:08 am »

I need to repartition my HD.  It will involve changing drive letters of partitions containing my music- combining two smaller partitions into one larger one.

There is a method to my madness.   I really need to do this.

How will this effect my media library?  Will all the music have to be reimported? Will I loose all the artist/playlist associations I have created?  I suppose I will find out all this stuff soon enough anyway but maybe some of you more experienced MJ users have some advice.
Thanks,
Richard

Provided that you don't make complicated changes to
where you store your music files on the new partitions,
there is no need to re-import files or playlists.

When you have moved the files you can change MJ's
idea of where they are stored from within the media
file properties dialog.

  • Select all the files in Media Library which have been
moved (e.g. by using the "File Location" view).
  • Choose File Properties from the right-click menu
  • Choose Find & Replace from the Tools menu in the
    Media File Properties dialog window
  • Select the Location tick-box
  • Fill out the Find What and Replace fields with the old
and new path to your media library; if you e.g. moved
the files from "C:\Music" to "D:\Jukebox" you would
    replace C:\Music with D:\Jukebox
  • Enjoy your music!

Thanks guys,
Between King Sparta and Roar I looked for  the file find in Media Jukebox and couldn't find it.  I figured I was S.O.L. and I'm gonna have to do this the hard way.

I cleared the media library and imported all the music from the new partition I had moved them into.  Voila!  MJ caused the original library to reappear with all the arranging I had created in a couple of years intact.  All I lost was the Playlists which is easy to redo.

I just upgraded to WinXP with a clean install on a new, bigger HD and everything is a lot better.
