problem with cdbb
« on: September 25, 2002, 06:58:48 am »

I am not sure but maybee with the last built of MJ
If i try to get info from cddb ,i got this window:
'mailformed command send from server to client'

No proxy,no firewall.
Look like [but not sure] that it is since we have 'cdbb..do you ...YADB' when cdbb not giving result.

But i want acces cdbb because YADB does not have the info. After getting it from cdbb,i upload it to YADB

This is also happening for me. CDDB lookup has been fine in the past but recently (and certainly with the last few builds) every attempt to access it brings "malformed command sent from server to client". The new YADB feature doesn't help as it doesn't have the CD details I need and, personally, I'd rather keep using CDDB.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am also experiencing this very frustrating problem.

In fact, I just purchased MJ this past weekend, and the application's inability to access CDDB has me quite concerned, especially since the newly-released .378 build automatically reverts to YADB.

An official response on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Could we at least get an official "We're working on it" here?

YADB ( http://www.yadb.com ) is our solution, based only on data from freedb.org. All the code that we use is code we wrote.

YADB has more than 600,000 CD's in the database. The success rate is currently 54% and is going up about 2% a week. Many of the failures are compilations made by users.

We replaced CDDB with YADB because they offered us a new contract with a 600% price increase.

YADB still has some minor weaknesess but it is already _far_ more stable than CDDB. We have source so we can fix the problems.

CDDB still works in MJ if you have an existing account.

A cd database that hasn't heard of Eagles Hotel California sure has some learning to go!
