Still need help with Top 10 View
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:45:01 pm »

Hi!

I hope someone of you wizards could help me out here. I have several View Schemes based on top lists like 'Top 10 songs by Artist', 'Top 10 songs by Genre' etc. But this one, 'Top 10 songs by Mood' doesn't work at all, the result is not 10 files, but could range from 1 to whatever :(

~sort=[Rating]-d,[Number Plays]-d ~nodup=[Name] ~limit=-1,10,[Mood2] G:\Musik

I think it's quite self explanatory, the rest of the setup is using only [Mood2] in the panes view. I believe the reason it doesn't work is that [Mood2] is a semicolon delimited list, when the other VS are based on standard string fields.

Is it so that semicolon delimited lists doesn't play well with ~limit?

Thanks alot!
/Martin

Anyone? There must be some smartlist/expression/VS experts out there :)

I've got no real experience of searching list type fields beyond [people]=

I tend not to consider searches based around them because of previous experiences.
I might have some time to mess around later if no-one else has chimed in.

Thanks Marko!
The thing here seems to be some issue between semicomma lists and ~limit modifier. It returns different amount of posts depending on what item in the list you choose...And I don't have a clue on why...or how to workaround it.

What previous experiences do you refer to?

There's some relative reading on the go here that might help you:

Thanks Marko!

Hm...I might have speed-read it wrong, but for some unknown reason (I couldn't find any explaining answers from the developers in the given thread) it seems that using lists within expressions simply doesn't work correctly. Perhaps they work as the MC team wants, but I don't know the correct use.

Is this a correct conclusion? Anyway, I'd given up hope creating those Top 10 Views. Perhaps I have a better go trying with some customized smartlists...we'll see!

Thanks again for doing the research, Marko!
