IPod and Multiple Album Sets
« on: March 04, 2006, 02:45:52 pm »

Can anyone point me towards which tags need setting in my mp3's to enable my Ipod to play double albums in the correct order and not track 1 disc 1 then track 1 disc 2 as currently seems to be happening?

Thanks in advance

You can use the Disc "X" of "Y" tag in iTunes, and if you choose to let iTunes keep your library organized, then it will name the tracks
1-01
1-02
2-01
2-02 etc.

Thanks Galley,

My files are already named 1-01 etc, that's the way I have them set up in MC so I guess
it's the tracknumber and discnumber tags thats messing  things up. I'll try removing the tags and see what happens.

Hmmmm,

If I delete the tags then upload from MC the IPod plays them in alphabetical order, Uploading the same files via ITunes causes them to be played in the correct order but doesn't seem to change the tags in the files!

I really don't want to have to use ITunes to upload double albums - there must be a way around this one.

The ideal solution would be if MC could read these filenames and assign a value to the Disc Number field.  I'm sure there must be a way...  8)

Galley,

I guess that you are referring to a field in the IPod database and not a tag?
MC already has the Track # and Disc # values set so it's just  not setting them in a form that the IPod can understand.

Maybe this should be raised as a bug

I guess I should've mentioned that 100% of my tracks are AAC, and MC doesn't fully support AAC tags.  :'(

Galley,
I have a duplicate library in mp3 for use with the IPOD, Apparently the tag to set is TPOS (part of set) so I've set this and still no go, My guess is that the Ipod ignores tags and relies on its DB and I think that MC is not setting this correctly.

Are you having the same problem?

I use Tag&Rename for all my AAC tagging needs.  It's 100%-compatible with iTunes.
