Suggestions for top bars in the views
« on: April 10, 2006, 04:51:02 pm »

I'm beginning to really like the top bars in the views!

But why stop there? In addition to the present back/forward/refresh buttons I would like to see three more buttons in those bars:
  • Previous in list (corresponding to pushing the Up arrow key in the tree)
  • Next in list (corresponding to pushing the Down arrow key in the tree)
  • Up (going up in the hierarchy of the tree)

Since the tree's going to be open anyway,
Your already going to be able to single click
to get these open? Would there be any point?
Just curious...

I see two advantages to work in the view instead of the tree:

1. If I work in the top of the view it is obvious which view I am changing, which it is not when I work in the three. It's so easy to change the content of the wrong view by mistake. In recent builds there is a visible differfence between active and passive (or focused and non-focused) view, but it is not really that clear.

2. I can move between e.g. playlists without moving my focus between the tree and the view on the right side.  Less eye movement and less mouse movement. Maybe not a big issue, but still an improvement.

This does not mean that I want to cut down the three, it is of course vital for the navigation, but sometimes it is not the best possible soloution.

So you would have them associated with a certain view?
That would make sense.  I haven't got big enough screen for this sorta thing yet!

Generally, the size of the screen is a rather annoying limitation, but the buttons I suggest wouldn't need any extra heigth since they would be in the same bar as the three existing symbols. The would of course take some extra width, but if the view contains a playlist (which is the case where I see the best use of the improvement) I think you can still have these new icons and a very long playlist name on a rather small screen without any problems
