You can get a set of Free FOC UPnP tools on the intel website. This tool set includes a software UPnP AV control point. This allows you to scan the UPnP media server for content and then direct it to stream to a UPnP Renderer (In this case the show center).... its a bit basic but pretty solid. IT allowed me to stream from JRiver, TwonkyVission, Intel and Nero UPnP servers... will test Windows media connect tonight ... this would give an option for streaming DMR protected content to the SC1000g unit.

It was really lame of pinnacle to build the renderer function onto the unit without the matching control point function on the unit or built into the server based GUI.

Is it possible for a novice at this sort of thing to use this program? I want to try it for the Avel Link Player but I don't want to waste my time either.

Firstly Microsoft Media Connect test bombed :( .... I dont think it is UPnP compliant .... no surprise really.

The Intel toolset samples are simple enough to use...

You just need the control point software

Run it after starting the media server and putting the SC1000 into UPnP mode.
The control point should detect both.
Browse the server directories (This is a bit slow and klunky on large media catalogs ... Twonky Vission server worked best)
Right click media file and take option for the SC1000
You then highlight the SC renderer and click the play Icon
And away it goes
There are no options for fast foward or pause etc ..... as it is only a demo to show of the Intel UPnP development toolset.

I hope there are folks out there cutting better code now !

PS ..... IT did crah the JRiver MC UPnP pluggin a few times when there was a large media catalog to parse ... approx 1000 items

I downloaded the tools last night and while I didn't see one specifically called AV Control Point I think I found the right one. I opened the program with the Media Center and the Avel Link Player server running and it found all the Media Center folders.

What I saw on screen was "Mikefp1432 (Media Center)" and then below that the folders in MC. The first part, I'm making up the letters and numbers cause I can't remember them exactly, is the name of the Avel Link Server.  It was not listed as a seperate device which is what I thought was supposed to happen.

The Avel Link Server, with MC running, is sort of recognizing it. But the interface on TV is very basic and the files don't play.  And in MC server, the message I get is "waiting for device description" and "waiting for service description."

Edit - rereading your post, is the AV Control Point the one with the Play, FF etc buttons? That program didn't recognize anything. In File and other menus, everything was greyed out.

Internet Radio is now working on MP101. The MP101 wouldn't play a radio station if the artist (or album or genre) was unknown. When I imported radio stations, the first thing I'd do is set the artist to "radio" so they would be easy to find in my library. That's why they were working for me, but not for others.

You can either set the artist to something, or get a new version here:

http://www.jriver.com/~gateley/server_upnp1032.mjp

j

John,

Thanks for that. It was the missing piece that had prevented me getting internet radio to work.

I am now getting a result for most of the small list of stations I had added.

I will now be able to do some serious searching for stations to see what I can play.

Thanks Again

Does anyone know if Reply Gain and Equalizer Settings have their effect on a stream to a uPnP device?

Equalizer settings for sure NOT. These settings are made in the playback engine of MC, but the upnp streams only the file.

If reply gain is saved into the tags of the file (and not only into MC database), it might work, but only if the upnp device knows how to use this tag field properly.

I haven't tested yet if it is supported on Netgear MP101, but I'll do a test ASAP.

The answer for now is no.

I raised this question a while back and John said he would look into it.  I don't see why this can't be done.  If MC can convert file formats on the fly with the UPnP server then it should also be able to run the DSP algorithms.

Mabes - it may be UPnP, I can't tell from the limited info I have.

If you make a sniff using ethereal, I'll take a look to see what is going on.

I downloaded the program and read the Help files but I have no idea what I'm doing.  The data below is from Capture/Start. There is more in a Notepad file but it basically just repeats itself. Is it not possible to post an attachment here?

Do you mean have the same thing playing in MC and on the device at the same time?
This is not possible, sorry.

Yes, will you implement such feature? Sometimes it's easier to control playback from computer.
Probably you can show to UPnP device a fake mp3 file and when choosing it, stream currently plaing music so device thinks its that fake mp3.

I was thinking about that before, actually...

If you could have, effectively, an audio device that was in fact an MP3 stream, you could connect your Digital Media Receiver to it and then control what's playing via Media Center. That would work great with NetRemote :-)

And the MP3 stream could obviously be in a Zone of its own, so you could have it playing totally independantly from the PCs soundcard, or use Zonesync to get it to play the same...

Hi all !

Couldn't connect either. I use MC for a year as my central mp3 and pics library with media server trough my home lan for other PC's. I'd like now to stream Upnp to my TV in my living room. I use there the Medi@TV from Packard Bell (See http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/index.php?PibItemNr=platform_mediatv_net2plug /) with a proprietary soft.  As a lot of other, I'd like to use MC as unique library managerl ... It's such a PERFECT SOFT ;-)

I tried several alternative in the options menu of the Upnp server but I couldn't connect. Would this be possible ? Here's the log:

Hi JM,

It's supposed to be UPnP Compliant, so it may work. If you can't get it to connect, send me a network sniff (www.ethereal.com) and I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.

Thanks,

It looks like it is UPnP compatible, but I'm having trouble finding documentation. I think it's not available yet in the U.S.

What does the status screen say when it tries to connect?

;D It's been a while since my post I know..
But back to the point..

Device: Packard Bell Medi@TV (http://support.packardbell.com/es/item/index.php?i=spec_mediatv&pi=platform_mediatv )

When I try to connect the device, it starts a brief search and stops saying there are no upnp servers

The Packard Bell Medi@ TV is identified by Microsfts upnp media player as an icube PlatTV NMP-400 which is I beleive the chipset used by Packard Bell to assemble their model. In Fact they look both identical.

http://www.playattv.com/eng/product/nmp4000/product6.htm

On JRiver upnp server side you get this below ... any clues??

I'm Running the OMniFi DMS 1 on the UPnP server (thanks by the way, for developing).  Things seem to run OK, but I keep getting an error on the server log:

This goes on and on.  In addition to selecting the OmniFi in the Options menu, I have tried Auto Detect and Noxon, both give the same result.  Anything I can/ should do, or is it a bug that's being worked on?

Hi Enrique - I don't see any clues. Can you do an ethereal sniff? (www.ethereal.com)
