Does MC yet support DTS audio passthru for DVD playback via SPDIF?  I have an Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 and a DTS decoder in my amp.  I am using ASIO as well.  When I play a DVD either straight from the player or ripped on the HD, and select the DTS audio channel, I get no sound.  I know the setup works since PowerDVD corrects sends the encoded signal to the amp (as the display changes to indicate as much).

Yes, this works.  You'll need to configure the DVD audio decoder to use the SPDIF.

Try doing it from inside MC's DVD options. 

Some filters make you registry hack to get it working in external programs.  Try a google search if the choice isn't available from inside of MC.

Hi Matt. Could you maybe elaborate on this "hack" please? I use WinDvd filters and have never been able to get the spdif passthru to "stick" so that I can use it with MC. I've always had to resort to other filters to do the job but would prefer to use WinDVD.

Here are my notes from my last system build:

For ATI HDTV decoders: (high-def NBA Finals tonight with MC)

• Update HDTV decoder to use SPDIF (registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\MultiMedia\CyberLink\PowerDVD\Media Center\AuDsInterface= 4)

For WinDVD decoders:

• Update DVD decoder to use SPDIF after playing a DVD once in Media Center (registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo\Common\AudioDec\Media Center\Audio = 6)

Thanks for the quick reply Matt.  My problem is actually not getting *any* audio thru SPDIF, that works, including DDS for DVDs.  My problem is that I cannot get MC to feed the DTS audio to SPDIF - which I obviously don't want decoded.

DTS audio is supported through DirectShow filters, though some users have had trouble configuring for SPDIF.

Try this:

Install DTS/AC3Source filter and FFDShow. Configure FFDShow Audio decoder to SPDIF for DTS.

If we are talking about the audio from playing a DVD movie, then the above does not apply.  Instead, you should go to DVD playback settings dialog window and click (Audio) Decoder Properties button to configure the decoder so that it sends the data to SPDIF directly.

Yup. PowerDVD works perfectly.

This is a current limitation of MC11.

Most audio decoders have the words audio and decoder in their names, but the filter you are using, AC3 Filter, does not. MC could not find its property pages.

When I click the DVD Filter Listing button I get the following:

Audio Renderer for MJ
Overlay Mixer
NVIDIA Video Decoder
AC3 Filer
DVD Navigator

Because you are using AC3 Filter, there is a different solution. AC3 Filter's configuration program can be accessed off-line:

Start->All Programs->AC3Filter->AC3Filter Config

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately I don't have that option - here is nothing in Program Files.  I believe this filter was installed via the Mpeg2decoder software I installed long ago to try to get MCE to use my old ATI AIW Tuner card.  That's long gone and I've using a 6600 now.  I also have PowerDVD 6 and Nero ShowTime installed now - both play DVDs with DTS passthru via SPDIF correctly.  Since uninstalling mpeg2decoder, Media Center fails to recognize ANY audio or video filters on the machine and just displays a long dialog box griping about hings missing.  So my question is now, how can MC recognize these other filters (PowerDVD e.g.)? I already reinstalled MC (11.1.188) but I'm no about to reinstall the other apps.  Is there a registry key I can add?

MC relies on DirectShow to select proper filters. If MC can not find decoders, you need to reinstall the software that put the decoders on your computer in the first place (such as PowerDVD or another program that came with your DVD drive).

If audio decoder is the only problem, you can install AC3 Filter. It is free.
