Mine comes from a book from Gordon R Dickson called Wolf and Iron.

I'd forgotten how much he wrote, and how much I liked most of it (Timestorm wasn't one of my favorites). I didn't read wolf and iron but I did most of the dorsai stuff, and the george and the dragon and....

my username comes from a quaint local custom of naming the children, in part, with the name of their father.

When I was born my mum was asked by the nurse what
I was to be called.  She attempted to say
"Christopher"
but because of the anasthetics it came out as
"Chriztopher"

Which is what the nurse wrote down on the board,
and on my name tag.

My friends often call me Mr Chris to differentiate me from
the all the other Chris' in our group. (Big Chris, Little Chris, and so on...)

Always found the Chriz story amusing so...
Mr ChriZ  :)

negopus: negotium, otium et opus

The name is made up of latin words:

negotium: whatever is essential for surviving
otium: fun stuff
opus: intellectual activity

I was looking for a way to organize my notes and my files at the time I registered into this forum. A way to organize ideas in general. I came up with the name (negopus) in the early stages of that search. When I found the myBase organizing program I stopped searching further. That program is more than enough to keep ideas in order. I think that speculating on pseudo-philosophical matters is too far-reaching. I am quite satisfied with that program.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_language#Etymology_of_the_word_.22Dutch.22

Quote
The word Dutch comes from the old Germanic word *žiudiskaz, later transliterated by the Romans into Latin as theodisk, meaning 'of the people', 'vernacular' as opposed to official, i.e. Latin or later French. Theodisk in modern German has become Deutsch and in Middle Dutch became Duutsc, which later gave the two early modern Dutch forms, Duits in the north and Diets in the south. Duits has taken on the meaning of "German", and Diets meaning "Middle Dutch" but no longer in general use (see the Diets article), dropped for its Nazi-era overtones. Theodisk survives as tedesco ("German") in modern Italian, tudasch, tudetsg in Romansch, tiois in eastern French dialects, and thīzhon in Wallon.

The English word Dutch has also changed with time. It was only around 1550, with growing cultural and economical contacts and the rise of an independent country, that the modern meaning arose, i.e., 'designating the people of the Netherlands or their language'. Prior to this, the meaning was more general and could refer to any Germanic-speaking area or the languages there (including the current Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as well as the Netherlands).

Now you know.  And, as GI Joe said, knowing is half the battle.

Toxic of course! It's a 2-fer, the model gets built and the high I get helps me to enjoy my MC.  ;D

Seriously, I don't really have much choice, most of the materials I work with require some type of solvent, superglue or epoxy for assembly. Even metal work and soldering involves toxic fumes. So, the most important factor in my workshop is good ventilation.
The second, is good music and MC.

I Seen A Few Shows On "How It's Made" (Science Channel) Neat Really How they Make Things Some Of The Times I Would Have Never Thought They Build Things Like They Do.

I am a custom builder of model trains, all sizes, large and small.

Here's another example, this one contains a Digital Command Control Reciever/Processor for independent train control and on board sound:
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1440312

I also work for a model train layout builder (Dunham Studios) up in Pottersville, NY (Adirondacks). I'm the guy in the blue t-shirt, grey hair and glasses. We build large layouts for display, museums, and (rich) private clients. The really big ones are built of sections assembled in the studio, broken down, shipped and reassembled.

If you've ever been to NYC at Christmas time and have seen the big Christmas train display at CitiCorp, that's one of ours. The display latout at the Cincinatti Union Terminal is also one of ours.

Here's Dunham's website:

Really...

I don't think i can do the detail work like that i would get too frustrated, and end up.  I had a train set when i was young it belonged to my grandfather. I kind of sold it when i was around 17, and sold it for drug money.  Boy was i dumb back then, it was a good thing it only lasted a few years or i would have been another statistic.

I loved my train.

I did the same back in the late '60s and early '70s! The model making is actually a second career, (it's been a hobby since I was 12). For my first career I( spent 20 years in the audio and later A/V business, first as a technician and later tech/rep (15 yrs w/JVC) in Germany servicing the US military Audio Clubs and PX Sound Centers.

Where were you stationed? It looks like we may have indeed crossed paths! I was an independent rep then, (75-77) repping Fisher ('76-just bought out by Sanyo), JBL, Phase Linear, Infinity, Mission, Quad, Hafler, Otari, Tandberg, Tanoy, B&W & DCM. I was also the sole rep for Audio Technica.

I still have my Infinty Column I's (now powered with Carver amps instead of the Phase Linears). I got a friend in the Army to ship them back in their household goods for me (they weighed around 500 lbs.).
