Disabling Auto-Play DVDs
« on: September 23, 2006, 10:36:05 pm »

I cannot express how deeply I dislike the auto-play feature for DVDs.  It has never proven useful to me because first of all, if I am inserting a DVD, I am most likely to rip it with Fair Use and then import it to MC.  Ideally, it would ask what to do.  I recall something in MC about asking each time but can't seem to find it anymore.  Where can I disable this feature?  Also, what if the default was to ask every time.  Then, it basically asks each user personally what they'd prefer instead of assuming one way or the other--because they can then click to always follow this advice.

I just turn off AutoPlay all together, which is safer anyway (as AutoPlay essentially allows any disc or removable drive you insert/connect to run any application it wants, including viruses, spyware installers, and DRM-infecters).

Use Microsoft's TweakUI (a Windows PowerToy) to disable it completely.

I don't think this changes MC, though, because I have it disabled!  When I was ripping my CDs & DVDs, I got sick of seeing those program installations popping up so I did disable it.

Ahhh... You meant while MC was running too.  That's easier even...

Go to: Tools --> Options --> CD -->Media Insert and change the applicable settings to "Nothing".  There's separate settings in there for Audio CDs and DVDs.
