Using MC11.1 and MC12.0.81 at the same time
« on: September 30, 2006, 01:29:52 pm »

Maybe 12.0.81 is supposed to work with MC11, but I'm not sure how well MC11 works with MC12.

I'm using 11.1.200.  It's now crashing all the time.  I'll probably have to do a complete un-install on it.  Of course I then have to redo all my options.  I've just spent 2 hours trying to find lyrics in MC11.  After 2 hours I have added 0.  Running 2 versions is driving me nuts.   :(

MC11.1 should not be connected with MC12 anyhow. I have no problems with running these two on the same PC and with the same media files.

I restore my main MC11.1 library (about 50000 files) in MC12 almost daily. Because of that I don't edit file tags or use Otto with MC12 (except when testing with a separate test library and a couple of test folders).

Could it be a plugin problem? Do you use any third party plugins?

It's not plug-ins because I have them all turned off.

This is the first time I ripped in MC12 and went back to MC11 for tag updating.  Up until now I ripped in MC11, managed the tags there, and did everything else in MC12.

MC11.1 cannot know what you used for ripping. The files are just files on the disk. Did you close MC12 before doing anything with MC11.1?

No, I had MC12 open.  Is that the issue?  I was under the impression both could be open at the same time.

After I did the rip (using 12), I had to import media in 11.  Both 11 & 12 were open.  Then 11 started crashing.

Perhaps if you had the "Watch Folders" function enabled in MC12 it could have tried to read the files at the same time you altered tags in MC11.1. That should not do anything to MC11.1, but I have no experience of this.

Actually, you should start a new thread and explain exactly what you did and what happened. Try to give step by step instructions how the problem can be reproduced.

Edit: This a new thread now (moved from the release/bug thread).

In general, I wouldn't recommend using the programs at the same time. Both versions can be installed on the same PC without Windows registry problems, but the programs are not designed or tested for simultaneous use.

OK, if that is the case, I'll just use 1 program at a time.  If I still have problems, I'll start another thread.
