Navigating with clients using UpnP-Server
« on: October 14, 2006, 05:53:09 am »

I have a NOXON2Audio to listen to my music in the living room. Today I found this option "Skip child Count" - and now navigation has become quite fast so it makes sense to use MC (before it was much to slow when navigating through view schemes). But there are still some issues to be resolved.

- When navigating with my Noxon through the view schemes MC considers every single pane. This sometimes results in  a MC crash and always results in a "No connection" message from Noxon because MC seems to navigate recursively through every single  pane.

Maybe it's easier to understand if I describe my settings more precisely:

View in MC: I have a view scheme called "Home Listening". I added some subviews 1 - rock, 2 - chill, 3 - new...

In all the views I use the panes "imported at", "genre", "Style", "last played", "Number plays", "Year", "Situation", + 3 more.

Navigating with NOXON

I access the view scheme "Home Listening" and try also accessing the sub views - with that option "skip child count" this works very fast!

I choose the tree "1 - Rock" and press PLAY at my Noxon. The UPNP log shows the following:

10/14/06 12:47:00 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.37 starting...
10/14/06 12:47:01 - UPnP Media Server Device started on port 2382

10/14/06 12:47:36 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 165(Audio\_Listen to music\1 Home Listening\01 Pop & Rock\200 nicht mehr gespielt\Pop\Alternative Pop\1900 01\4\Unassigned)
10/14/06 12:47:37 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 166(Audio\_Listen to music\1 Home Listening\01 Pop & Rock\200 nicht mehr gespielt\Pop\Alternative Pop\1900 01\4\Unassigned\hl - home listening)
10/14/06 12:47:38 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 167(Audio\_Listen to music\1 Home Listening\01 Pop & Rock\200 nicht mehr gespielt\Pop\Alternative Pop\1900 01\4\Unassigned\hl - home listening\Unassigned)
10/14/06 12:47:39 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 168(Audio\_Listen to music\1 Home Listening\01 Pop & Rock\200 nicht mehr gespielt\Pop\Alternative Pop\1900 01\4\Unassigned\hl - home listening\Unassigned\6)

Then it stops - and the NOXON shows the message "NO CONNECTION"

For me it looks like the server uses every single pane to identify a song to be played. Shouldn't the playback just skip the panes?

In some cases, MC acknowledged pressing the PLAY button with a crash!

Can you make a sniff with Ethereal and send it to me?

Thanks,

I will perform the sniffing at the week-end when I'm back home again.

Besides the above described case I made some other tests with the UPnP-server at the weekend. I copied the views and deleted the panes so I could start using the UPnP-Server.

Unfortunately, MC crashed quite often!

Not always, but many times this happened when I navigated through the NOXON music trees defined in MC. Maybe, also here ethereal can help...

Are you running audioscrobbler or any other Third Party Plug-ins?

Please double check in the plug-in manager under tools.

I'm not at home now but I've installed MC12 a few weeks ago and I would know if I installed any plug-in. Ok, there's one exception - it's DFX.

I can give you a 100% statement at the weekend for now I can be sure only for 99%.
