SLOOOW Operations
« on: December 03, 2006, 10:26:38 am »

Have been having extreme difficulty with slow operations of MC.  Using MC 11.1.201.  Restarted machine several times.  No other programs are running.  Searching through the library is a mix of slow waits followed by good responsiveness.  But trying to burn a DVD is very troublesome.  MC will stay frozen for hours.  Any ideas?  Here is my info:

I've been seeing this as well, esp. when updating tags.  I've seen tagging 10 files take almost 1 minute, on an otherwise responsive system.   Sometimes the operation just times out, but yields an error message that a subset of the tags couldn't be updated (with a dialog suggesting locking issues, read-only files).  Retrying the operation tags all the files in 1-2 seconds.

I uninstalled 11.1.200 and reloaded older version 11.1.196 and now it works fine.

I'm planning on upgrading to 12, but don't want to until I hear back from the moderators.  Should we fix this first, or just make the jump to 12?  Or should I install an earlier version?

No idea what the problem is.  Please check this thread for anything that looks similar:

I reviewed all the items in the thread.  Nothing there seems to fit.  Disabling A/V didn't help any.   This build is aslo sluggish when moving into a new edit field - it takes a couple of seconds for the edit text to appear in a view.

Not for me anyway - all files are local.

Its no longer an issue for me personally, as I've switched to MC12.

Build 201 is DOA.  Having so much trouble with it that I cannot access my tunes anymore - locks up and crashed.  Upgraded to 12.0.130 and everything is fine again.

(Great business plan!)

I am looking at 8+ hrs to refill a 20 gig iPod and that is a FIRST over the 5 years give-or-take, that I have used MC.  How do I fall back to version 11.1 196?  I couldn't locate beyond version 197.

I disabled the update tags option as somebody here suggested. The library was defragged.  The iPod was initialized. Nothing major was running. My computer is < 1 year old.

Ok, I recant.  MC 12 has the same issue.  Tagging 12 tracks can take 1 minute... with long stalls... and then multiple failures.  Retrying the operation succeeds in 2 seconds.
