  • I won! I won!

The title says it all - a dedicated HTPC, does nothing else - what is the best base OS - XP or is there some benifit to Vista (or downside)?
Thanks

Only one that I know... Vista allows to share protected WMA to any other PC with WMP11. This is not directly linked to MC but if you are using a subscription service such as Napster then it is an interesting advantage.

I wouldn't recommend Vista at all for your HTPC.
You're alot better off with XP (at least at the moment).

Vista is a HUGE resource hog and so will be stealing resources from Media Center so will probably result in less smooth functionality.

As well as this, driver support at present isn't finalised for everything.

Vista has reworked the way it manages standby, hibernation and other power saving features. Currently this is causing many issues for htpc owners.

Vista is poison for HTPC's. I'm running it on my laptop, and that works OK. But don't even think about upgrading your HTPC. It will play havoc with a lot of things, like color balance, white balance and stability.
