FLAC 1.1.3 and MC11.1
« on: January 04, 2007, 03:45:11 pm »

When MC11.1 will use new flac encoder? I'd like to include the cover art in the files itself.
Why FLAC support is not so strong compared to APE? Flac has becoming the most popular format and MC doesn't have native support for it.

Thanks!

From the third party plug-ins forum:

I just posted a version 2.1.0 of the Flac Decoder plugin.

I think it fixes the "next" crashing bug.

It also updates to flac-1.1.3, and now has image file capabilities.  Note that since the image block is not part of the Vorbis tags, "Remove Tags" will not delete the images from the file.  You'll have to use metaflac command-line for now to do that.  Hopefully I can come up with an option or workaround for that.

I've heard reports that Unicode characters still may not be handled correctly -- Please let me know if you find anything of that sort.

scthom's support is almost as good as the real thing.

Though, this plugin version is only for MC12. MC11.1 is final and looks like its FLAC plugins are final too. New features are available only in MC12.

Are you saying that MC12 with the new FLAC plug-ins can store and retrieve images in FLAC files themselves? That would be very useful, in particular when moving the files.

Thanks/Mikael

Did you get an answer to this question?

I'm looking to rip my entire CD collection to a lossless format and haven't decided on APE or FLAC yet.  I had started using FLAC  simply because that's the default lossless option in EAC.  I figure those guys know what they are doing.  However, MC11 only seems to support APE and not FLAC.

Cheers,
Scott

MC has had FLAC support since MC10 (or earlier) using plugins.

Both MC12 and MJ12 now have native FLAC support.

Actually, EAC has full internal support for Monkey's Audio if the Monkey's Audio 3.99F package is installed on the PC. Monkey's Audio can be encoded directly without using an external encoder and also burned directly without decompressing the files first. EAC doesn't have any specific support for FLAC. FLAC is supported only as an external command line encoder.

The FLAC plugins for MC11.1 are available here: http://mcplugins.sourceforge.net/files.html

If you are ripping standard track files and have no use for EAC's special features you may want to try ripping with MC. MC has a secure ripping mode with rip logging.
