Request: Rip and Burn in Theater View
« on: January 08, 2007, 12:04:13 am »

As part of my on-going quest for a perfect HTPC front-end, I have yet another suggestion for Theater View please...

I'd really love to be able to burn a CD/DVD of Playing Now content without leaving Theater View. I don't want to see the standard view or any of its popup boxes or be required to hit any keys on a keyboard or move my mouse. Just a button on the Playing Now screen which lets me kick off a simple burn using my standard settings of whatever is in the list (spanned as required and automatic media-type selection based on the content within Playing Now).

Likewise, I would like to be able to rip a cd within Theater View using the same rip and folder location settings as defined in Standard View.

Perhaps the functionality could be provided by extending MCC_BURN and MCC_RIP?

This would just be PERFECT!!!

Two Ringy-Dingy

Well?

I can already do this in another front end.

But, I prefer to use my favorite front end.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I'm hoping this is not too difficult to implement and that it could be considered for MC12 before release.

Cheers.

Three Ringy-Dingy

On the rip/burn.

And on rayms "save playing now playlist"

The ability to save PN as a playlist is a neat feature.

Pic. this Jim:

You spend a evening queing up music to playing now. (3 to 5 hrs worth)

Now youre able to save this as a playlist for in the future.

Mood Music.

Not really sure this is useful. Normally you would rip a CD in Normal view anyway as you need keyboard etc to enter/update tags etc..

Not if you're using YADB you don't and Theater View's OSK could be used to change basic tags as required. This is how MCE does it.

No other takers? Would others not like to see these features in the near future?

I, for one, would not like to see this feature implemented *now*. There is a lot of work need to be done for theater view just for browsing and viewing various media, IMHO. It is not yet 100% ready with all the major features for just browsing and viewing from a couch with a remote control. I will first like to see theater view feature rich enough to view and browse media.

I second (or 3rd, or 4th it) the vote for this function.  Allow the rip & burn and concentrate on "browsing ease" in theater view....would make a great program even better!

YADB may give useful results if you listed to pop/rock/jazz.  The tags filled in YADB on Calssical music are *almost always* unusable to me (if they exist at all) and need to be updated / entered.

As I said, the Burn feature might be easier to implement first. Ripping could be done but as suggested, you'd probably want to allow the user to enter/update tags (at least the basic ones). The Theater View OSK was my thought for this.

XBMC does tags via an OSK as do almost all other HTPC's I know and it works fine. It's the expected way of doing input via this type of interface.

I'd love both these features and several other apps already have them in. I'd expect to (hope to) see MC adding these in soon. As for the amount of work that's involved - MC already has the burning engine and the ripping engine, all it needs is a pretty little full screen GUI to tell these engines to do the rip with the details it gives it - it is some work sure but not HUGE.

You've got my vote for both!

Right on! And I'm hoping that Theater View's OSK could be utilised for the naming of Playing Now playlists too (again, just like MCE).
