Is the Cowon iAudio X5 compatible with MC? I was considering a Zune due to some comments on audio quality but after reading about DRM and all the othe rnasty issues, steering clear of that mess.

I bought a Zune because of all the positive buzz about it's sound quality.  I must say the sq IS excellent.

As for DRM, I will never have to deal with it, because I don't buy music with DRM.  The Zune plays MP3's from   eMusic and other independent download sites just fine.

Frankly speaking, the Zune software required for syncing is very poor, and feels like it was just rushed.  The biggest drawback is that I can't just use MC for syncing, but I have some hope that that my change in the future (ie, Microsoft might open up the player).
