Number of files/songs in the current directory

Hi guys :)

I've struggled to find anything on this one...

Is there any way to have (function, field, etc) to output the number of files/songs in the current directory? I mean internally JMC knows about it (it shows in the bottom right corner). But how do I associate this number with each file in the current directory?  :o
