Theater View Plug-ins
« on: March 08, 2007, 05:53:52 pm »

Hi Matt,

Nice Weather-Plugin :D  The temperature here in Switzerland displays 41 degrees - like in the Sahara Desert :P

We use here Degree Celsius and not Fahrenheit! So some conversion for non US/non UK countries may be needed!

Here's a sample Theater View plugin:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/TheaterViewPlugin01.zip

Extract the contents to [Media Center]\Plugins (so there'll be a Theater View folder under Plugins)

It's quite rough, but will give you an idea of where we're headed.

Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one on the Weather Plug-In, I like the way it is just a seamless part of the D'Top (shame though you guys are still not metric, get your dates backward etc :P)

The weather isn't ours.  I think it's coming from weather.com.  There may be a way to tell it what scale to use (C or F).

We know what metric is.  We just can't decide to use it.  Maybe some day.

Very nice "extra" feature for MC -- a "whistle and bell" type feature that I think a lot of people (such as myself) will actually use.

Actually, after seeing this in Theater View, I'd like to be able to see this info incorporated into the Standard View as well.

If you do decide to incorporate metric, please keep the option of using F for those of us who are metrically challenged.

Thanks,

Larry

An option for f vs c will be added to the weather module.

The RSS news part (eventually a separate plugin) will be configurable to use your favorite news / RSS sites.  You'll be able to zoom in on a story and read the whole thing.

I'm sure I'm just missing it, but how do you change the location once it's been set?

Also, what time does "night" start?  It's 4:30 PM here, and it already shows a moon and lists it as "Night" even though the sun won't be setting for about an hour and a half or more.

Thanks,

Larry

You don't.  Eventually configuration will be available in Plugin Manager or Theater View options.  We're not sure which one makes more sense.

Lucky.  You must be in the "right" time zone, unlike us here in Maine.   >:(

Just to clarify this, I think it would be nice to be able to hide the current temperature icon on the Theater View home page (I'm not a fan of this) but to be able to see the current temp in the weather page itself.

The weather page doesn't actually show the current temp in the "Current Conditions" portion of the screen.

Thanks again.

A probably dumb question:

How do I get the Weather button to show up in Theater View Home page? I have installed the Theater View Plugin as instructed (unzipping and putting it under Plugins directory). I had previously configured to only show some buttons in the theater view (Audio/Images/video/CD & DVD/Playing Now/Exit). Now, if I click on Add I only see News, Playlists and TV but no Weather.

thanks,

In the Plugins directory, you should have a directory called Theater View.  Example:

C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\Theater View\Weather

And you need the latest build of MC.  12.0.189.

One of my PC's has the Weather Button - the other does not - will have to look harder!

Also I use Acajou for the Skin and you can not read any of the RSS Feed text when you select a particular story (white text on white backgroud I am guessing!)

Thanks

I wonder if it has to do with whether you've installed weather.com's weather before (outside MC).  If so, the cookie might need to be deleted.

Can I just say...

Wow.  I really like this.  Great work guys.  I assume we'll eventually see some documentation on building our own plugins?

Couple relatively small (I think) requests for the RSS Feed viewer:

1. We need to be able to configure the fonts for the text somehow.  Completely unreadable on my TV from the couch.
2. When we can eventually add our own feeds, it'd be nice to be able to organize them into "folders" or "categories" (ala-bookmarks).  That would cut down on first-page clutter and make it easy to navigate to the feed we want to look at.

I also don't know if it's possible at all (might not be worth the effort), but it'd be really nice if we could get alternate sources for the weather information.  Weather.com has pretty terrible accuracy for me here, unfortunately (it seems to me that the focus a lot more on urban areas than rural ones).  Weather Underground does a much more reliable job generally.

It happened a little bit different to me... I had the applet which let me enter the city. Pressed Search and found "Quito, Ecuador". Selected it,  but then on whenever i tried to get to Theater View, it took MC at least 10 seconds just to show the screen and i didn't get to see anything. Didn't crash in my case.

Finally i had to delete the plugin directory i created as instructed to get this working right again.

Anyway, i'm confident this will work soon! :)

Thanks for the great feature.

I'm using the latest plugins and MC and the Weather button is definatly on the "second page" - to see it I have to keep pressing the down arrow for it to appear (and then the "playing now" button disapears) - I'd sugest that the TheaterView has plenty of desktop realestate and should be redesigned to show all the buttons.

Also - I can now read the RSS Feads so the background text change has worked (even if it is in a poxy yellow!)

Extract the contents to [Media Center]\Plugins (so there'll be a Theater View folder under Plugins).

MC12/188 = 01.zip

MC12/189 = 02.zip

MC12/190 and up = 03.zip

and judging from mlefebvre post, 03 will not work with MC12/189

Just to verify, is there still not yet a way of changing your location once it's set?

Thanks,

Work around on location change -
re-install the weather channel toolbar for IE. It should give you the setup box.
