YADB Performance
« on: August 25, 2002, 04:45:22 am »

In another thread, we announced that MJ 8.0.355 uses a new CD lookup, based on freedb.

The other thread ( http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/interact/NeoBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=inter&Post=13241 ) got a little off track, so I've closed it.

We're not yet interested in the fine points of how this compares to CDDB.  Later on, we'll fill in where it's weak.  In the past, when there was a problem with CDDB, there was just about nothing we could do.  Now we should be able to make the YADB system obey our (your) will.

Can you report on your success (or lack of it) with the new system?
Is it fast?  Is it reliable?  Do you find what you're ripping?

Jim,

Just found a disk that I had not looked up with CDDB. Porno for Pyros - Good God's Urge. Found it very fast , and I should note that the track titles are intact. No track 1, etc.

Do the really cleaver trick i found works?

If a cd is not on YADB,change setting to cdbb.
If you get the infos, reverse to YADB and update the database.
It is many million times faster than to type.As far as i see it works

Since i answer the questions in the other thread.

I have a question

Will there be a By File Lookup?

And

Will J River Provide Hooks In MJ Automation to allow plugins to access the By File LookUp?

Zevele,

That's what I started doing and it does work.

Hi Zevele, I fixed the duplicate Phish problem. Someday we should have a peer review system in place, but for now, just complain here and it'll get fixed.

Hi KingSparta, we are looking at single file lookups and at hooks for others to use (probably in the form of web services).

First,bad news
I'am running windows.ME europe\english,because since more than one month,i cannot remember who has this ,and  my Windows 200 as well...
So i cannot enter any disc with hebrew letters.
If you do not have anyone on this forum able to test it,let me know,i will put Windows 98 SE Hebreux on my machine a do tests.

Concerning the problem with Phish, things are not that simple.
For 'Of' or 'of',ok,no problem, just take a rule once for all.
Like first letter of each word on block letter.Even if it is of-and-with ...
But for the 3 others with the same title,it would be good to get a wider window and to be able to read all the name of the album.

Giant Sand  Chore Of Enchantement
            and

Giant Sand  Chore Of Enchantement japan[ or japaneese]

are not the same, there is 3 songs more on the japan one.

So you have to keep the 2 entries.
But you will get 2 or more entries for the japan one:
.....japan,or......jap edit..... or ....do not know what.

I thing that the clean-up can only come from us,sending our remarks.

Anyway,it is a newborn,so improvement his on his way.
But it would be a very good thing not to finish with the same mess than cdbb 2.
cdbb1 was much much better, not giving 2 or more entries for the same record.

Do the entries send to YADB go to Freedb as well?

So I have quite a bit of album data in my MJ DB - some of which I entered manually, painfully, the rest came from CDDB.

I would be happy to contribute my manual efforts in batch directly to YADB in fact I want to. Is there a batch method I can invoke (sorta like selecting all files and choose properties->get cover art)?

There isn't right now, and it's tricky.  What you need to do is put your CD back in the drive, let MJ try to find it on yadb and then, if not found, do a submit to yaddb.

Maybe later we can do something better.

Just wanted to add that I welcome this new addition to MJ. Great idea! And so far, it's found the info for each CD that I've tested.

At this point there is no connection to freedb.  That could change.

At first (8.0.355) YADB just wouldn't work. Now it does and I am sending all of my data to YADB.

Listening to: 'God Bless The Child' from 'Lady Day - The Best Of Billie Holiday (Disc 2)' by 'Billie Holiday' on Media Jukebox

Here a problem:
At the begining it is ok;let say the first 10-15 cds.At around this number, you get the problem and the most you put cds,the most you get the problem.Around 1 cd out of 3 from cd when you reach 30 up to 50 cds

The window
                      "accessing Disk...YADB info
                                                                                              Status:connecting

Stays for ever and there is no connection, and no traffic
Click on 'cancel' do not work

I have to 'alt|PLS|ctrl|PLS|del' to kill MJ

MJ close but there is a window with
'gathering info &updating view...'

Nothing happens

Again 'alt|PLS|ctrl|PLS|del' to kill:
"wait...[not responding]

This line was not in the close program window when i killed MJ

reopening MJ works fine.

MJ 335[cannot download 336]
Windows ME
IE 6
Adsl  PPPOe connection
No firewall at this time on the computer

YADB is missing so many discs you'd expect to be there, like a CAKE CD.

I've tried to figure out how to change to CDDB, as others have suggested, but I can't find the option in MJ.  Is it really there? Am I blind?

Not sure what you are looking for,but if it is back to cddb.

You have to click on the right of the window where you see YADB
NOT on 'settings'
you will see YADB and cddb, click on the one you want to use
