Nike PSA 128 doesn't work.
« on: September 26, 2003, 06:06:27 am »

Would one of you tech guys please tell me why the Nike PSA 128 MPS player I have does not work with the plugin available for download.

When I try to import a playlist or some selection of MP3's it crashes during the upload.

I do not want to use MusicMatch! I want to use Media Jukebox.

Thank in advance.

I just retested MJ 8.0.399 on a Windows 98 PC and could not duplicate any problems with Nike PSA. Can you detail what steps you are taking to download the files to the Nike from MJ (i.e drag and drop)? Also, what version of MJ are you running?

I am using version MEDIA JUKEBOX PLUS 8.0.400
I created a 'gym' playlist.
I try to import any number of mp3 files and during the upload i get an error box with just a red X inside of it.
If i click close on the error box, the upload prompt never closes. Ihave to close Jukebox and restart.
I have tried using the Nike drivers your company supplies, which creates a 'Nike PSA' icon under 'Handhelds'. When I click on it, I get a "initialization fail' error.
???

Oh yeah...I use Windows 2000 Server.

Your Player may also require the Nike PSA 128 drivers from the company who made it for it to work if they are not installed you may wish to install them.

Come on man!
I am using the correct drivers.
I am using the drivers hat came with the device.
Can you try uploading mp3's to your PSA with Windows 2000?
Should I uninstall and reinstall?
I can drag and drop throught the file system, but that is inneficient...

terstyne,

In review, you have installed the drivers that came with the Nike. What version of the MJ plugin have you installed? It should be 3.0.13. If you have 3.0.13 installed, what happens when you click on the Nike in the tree? Initialization failed? If so, you can never get as far as trying to transfer files. Please update me and I can make more suggstions.

In advance: SteveG/KingSparta...thanks.
SteveG, everything you have said in your 'review' is acurate.
I have downloaded the plug-in (version 3.0.13) and when I click on it, you are correct...I get an 'Initialization Failed, make sure you have the correct drivers install...' general error message. If I try it without the plug-in, about 1/8th of the way through (not even that much) it just stops, shows a dialoque box with nothing but an x inside.
I will try to upload to my player on my Windows2000 Professional machine at work and see what happens. I'm hoping it isn't computer related. By the way, I can use music match jukebox with noooo problem. But, I HATE the UI associated with that software.
Has anyone tried this with Windows2000 Server?

What do you mean by this? How are even beginning to transfer the files apart from the plugin?

I tested Nike on XP and all was fine. The correct drivers were part of XP and did not require any installation. The versions of the drivers (as found in Device Manager / properties) were:

NikeDrv.sys  - 1.00
MDWMDMsp.dll  - 2.9.1.1
spNike.dll - 1.0.2.1

I then tested on 2000 which does not include a Nike driver. I installed Nike Audio Manager which shipped with the player and then connected with MJ and again all worked. I checked the driver from Device Manager and found  NikeDrv.sys version 1.00.  Please confirm these driver versions.

Thanks,

Steve

System Devices tree:
In the SCSI and RAID controllers node:
     -Nike psa[128max SCSI Host Adapter
     -Driver:psa128s.sys
     -ver:0, 214, 29, 139 (?)
In the Nike psa[128max player class node:
     -Nike psa[128max Player
     -Driver:psa128u.sys
     -vers:0, 214, 25, 139 (?)
In the Disk Drives node:
     -NIKE____psa[128max__U0_D0 SCSI Disk Device
     -Driver:disk.sys
     -ver 5.00.2195.6655
Storage Volumes node:
     -Generic Volume
     -Driver:supplied by MS

The 'NIKE Audio Manager' that you are referring to(?) does that happen to be the MusicMatch software?
That is the only 'manager' software I have that came with the device.
In the included PDF manual it refers to the MusicMatch software as the 'audio Manager'.
I can also use the MusicMatch software to transfer files.

By the way, when you commented on the quote:
Quote:

Quote:What do you mean by this? How are even beginning to transfer the files apart from the plugin?

At least 1Meg of data gets transfered and then it displays that box with the red X.

Question, should I do a complete system removal of MJ and re-install?

Here is something else that is weird:
I uploaded the plugin for 'Portable Drives' and it overwrote the existing plugin for 'portable drives', well I am able to upload music FROM Media Jukebox...BUT the dialoque that usually displays the upload progress is strangely missing the progress bar. So I dunno.

Thanks ?

The Nike Audio Manager shipped on the CD with our Nike.

Without using the plugin (i.e. the Nike in the tree) how are you initiating a file transfer to the Nike?

Don't do a complete uninstall/reinstall yet. Please give me the driver versions by right clicking on 'My Computer' and going to Hardware and Device Manager and then Universal Serial Bus Controller->Nike->Properties.

Thanks.

..well I imagine the software is recognizing it as a USB storage device. The player appears under 'plug-ins' as drive N:.
Steps to upload:
1) I would select an mp3, right click and select 'send to device N:'
2) I would go to device N: and select 'upload files'.
3) During the upload is when the 'process' would freeze. Not the application, but the upload process.

I have a 256K USB starage device that I can transfer files to with no problem...of course I can't use it to play mp3's but I can transfer the data as if it were another hard drive. The upload worls fine in this case.

I do not have a Nike node under the Universal Serial Bus Conroller node.
The only places that mention a Nike device are as described in previous reply.

The Nike I have is not the same model as yours, so that may account for the different results. Without using MC, what happens when you drag and drop files to drive N (the nike) from Windows Explorer?

In MC under Handhelds do you see both the drive letter 'N' and  'Nike' (which corresponds to the plugin)?

...I am quite able to drag&drop through Windows Explorer.

I see both the drive letter N: and Nike psa.
BUT since i get the "Initialization failed" dialoque box, I have removed the plug-in. Even when I just click on it I get that message.

I can view the files through Drive letter N: as a plugin but that is all.

Please tell me what you think about a previous reply I made:

I think it has something to do with that plu-gin for portable drives.

terstyne,

Thanks for the clarification, we are not comparing apples to apples. Your Nike appears as a removable drive which changes the rules of the game (mine does not), do not use the Nike plugin.

Can you confirm that you have portable drives plugin version 3.0.16 installed (in plugin manager)?

Yes! I can confirm that. The 'portable drives plugin' is version 3.0.16.

Can you please comment on this:

My analysis is:
The pre-installed plug-in REALLY does not work with my MP3 player.
BUT the version I downloaded (3.0.16) does, to a point, the graphics of the upload progress dialoque box are disabled . All that is anabled are the 'transferring file icons'.

One last question: Will I have this problem if I download MJ9.0 i.e Media Center.
Thanks.

The plugin from the webpage would overwrite that which is automatically installed with MJ 8.

If you could install MC 9.1.316 or the version 10 beta, and we are correct that Nike is functioning simply as a removable drive, you should have no problems, and if you do, I will be in a much better position to do something about it.

Go for it if you can.
