When using secure ripping I get the following error messages intermittently:

"Open Drive failed. Parameter is out of range"
and then
"Read Track failed.Drive is not opened"

anyone had this problem? any ideas?

Thanks

Could it be timing?  Try waiting a few seconds longer to let the drive spin up.

Thanks Jim

I have tried several approaches but the problem (intermittently) still occurs - it has only occurred with .348. Anyone have any  suggestions?

I've had the exact same problem ever since V8 has been out. Did not have the problem in V7.x. My particular setup is that the drive that fails as such is a SCSI CD ROM drive. I have an IDE DVD-ROM drive which I currently use for ripping (slower). Other programs, including those that rip music, have no problem accessing the SCSI drive. I've never been able to figure it out.......

Brana - I used to have a SCSI CD but never got it to work with MJ8 or 7. I now use an IDE DVD/CDRW combi which has been fine up until 8.0.348.

My XP install is creaking a bit so I might be forced to to reinstall and clear up some of the application clutter that has built up. For me this often sorts out "wierd happenings"

Yes' I am currenly having this problem' I have tried using other MP3 converter programs with both my drives
Creative CDR-DVD and Plextor IDE drive they work fine with my other programs(Creative Play Station, WinAmp &
Music Match)' I've tried checking everything I can think of and still hae the problem;even updated my ASPI adaptec driver to the most current no help' The only thing I can think of is that the drive letter for my drives are I & J maybe these are out of JM8 range of recognition? The MJ8 plays these files fine but will not record. Also I notice in the settings options The configure drive figure option will not lite up to be activated. Please Help' Doctordjpower ?

I don't have a fix but my work around works consistently for me. When I want to rip a CD if I get an error I simply play the CD with another program and then hit stop - that seems to get things into shape. Ripping works after that.

sounds like your out of room on the cdrom? or the computer thinks so?

try running a better scan disk then the one that comes with windows 9x  or get one that works with win Xp and use it.  this might fix the errors?   also try running a registry cleaning program not the one from ms.  try another one.

look at this site for one.

if cleaning the reg or using a disk repairing program does not work then i am at a loss?  but try them. :)
