Exif tag in importing images
« on: August 23, 2007, 10:29:25 pm »

Hi,
I come back from a trip in the USA. Great. Soon on Pix01.
As I change my GMT location, my camera was not always at a good date (day and hour).
I import some images in MC12 301 and look at the date which was not good. I delete the files from the database.
I change the exif data with a software "exif date changer". The date is well read by windows explorer (date de cliché), Acdsee and some exif software.
I reimport them into MC12. The date has not change in the MC database.
Even without importing them, the date is not good. MC keep the old import date.
I try with the pictures I haven't import the first time and all is correct.

After some test, I find that even if I rename, copy in an other folder, MC do not change the properties of the image : the name and the date are the same even with a copy of the image.

Is there a way to have new properties of an image?
Thanks
Pascal

update library from tags won't work if there's an existing <MJMD> tag block in the image file.

Using the "Remove Tag" tool used to work as this would only remove the <MJMD> tags, then the "Update from tags" tool would re-read the date from the EXIF data.
I did a test this morning though, and now that MC is writing the date out to IPTC, it would appear to be reading the IPTC data in preference to the EXIF data, meaning that the "update from tags" tool simply reimports the old date that MC recorded in the IPTC tag.

Thanks for ansewring.
But, I'm unable to remove tags.
I try with several photos but none has tags removed.
I try also "clean file properties" and nothing happen.
Even in audio files, nothing happen when I "remove tags".
I think the problem is bigger.

I try something else
I create a new empty library.
I import those photos and the date are the same than in the first library.
I edit twice with an exif software and the date is good but MC12 find another date I can't find on the exif information.
The importation date from MC12 is exactly 12 hours before the good date :
The good date is 08/01/2007 4:13:18
MC12 date is      07/31/2007 16:13

Another strage things is that I rename a file : IMG_2550.jpg in IMG 255001.jpg
Even in the new library, MC12 write IMG_2550.jpg as the name of the file. Weird, isn't it?

I find IPTC info in another exif viewer and the "date created" is 20070731 but no hour.
Another IPTC tag show "Photo Date": 2007:08:01 04:13:18
And the name of my IMG_255001.jpg file is IMG_2550.jpg in the MC12 database. Why?
If I take another file and remove tags, nothing happen but if I "update library (from tags)", the date is the date without the hour.

Please
Can someone tell what tag is imported in MC12?
Thanks

MC 12 Uses the EXIF date, unless the IPTC "date created" exists, then it overrides the EXIF date.
However, as you noted, IPTC "date created" does not store the hour (this is the IPTC standard), so if EXIF and IPTC "date created" have the same date, MC will use the time from EXIF.

What seems to be the problem here is the time zone shift between where the picture was taken and where the data is being handle, which changed the actual date; so MC assumed you changed the date in the IPTC tag and decides the EXIF time no longer appllies.

We'll need to find some change to handle a timezone shift.
