STILL having problems with flv files...
« on: September 09, 2007, 12:07:47 am »

I upgraded to version 12 for the ability to save and play flv files offline. I had problems importing these files and playing them at first and all of a sudden it started working. Now I've downloaded a few more and once again I cannot import them and play them in MC12. I can still play the one's i was able to import before, but I cannot import and play any new ones. I can also play them just fine without downloading them, just not the one's I've downloaded to my computer. I'm about to give up on MC12.

When importing the flv files into MC12 is puts them into the Documents>File Type>Unassigned>flv folder in MC. flv IS selected in the file associations in the options but MC WILL NOT import and play these files.

So far this hasn't been worth the upgrade price... I'm totally frustrated.

This may help, I've got a potentially similar problem where my TV Recordings are taged as DATA not VIDEO during the import (and it is NOT a filter problem as they play just fine....)

Is the "Media Type" set to "Video" or "Data" (to display the columns go...View --> View Settings --> Columns --> and Select "Media Type").  If set to "Data" then change (F2) to "Video".  See if it now plays  ;D

Thanks

That was it, it was importing as "data" and not "video". Now it plays fine, except the thumbnails aren't displaying correctly in the menu. Additionally, all new flv videos are still imorting as data.

NExt question, does anyone know why it's doing that and how to fix it?

Normally it is because there is a DirectShow filter problem (eg MC can not play it, thumbnail it etc) so it chucks it in as Data.  For me (and others) it is the DVB-T Recording files (DVR-MS) that have started being added as DATA but only sometimes....I know the filters worked in this case or the file could not have been recorded OR the channel watched, so I'm leaning towards a bug that got introduced in the last few weeks....
Thanks

If you've only got a few you can play each one then right click --> use screen grab for thumbnail.  You could try removing then reimporting them (but they also may come back as Data!)

Okay, tried deleting them and re-importing them but that did not make the thumbnails work. However, the good news is I think all the files re-imported as video rather than data. This is progress!
