Thanks!!!

The new build fixed all my CD burning problems. Back to normal, for me.

BTW, it was suggested that I update my ASPI drivers, which I tried this morning. I now know MUCH more than I ever wanted to know about ASPI, and have 4.7.1 drivers... which did nothing for the burning problem. No effect,,, thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

If I purchased MJ 7.0, and I download MJ 8, will I have to repurchase it or will it 'know' I am a paid MJ owner. How many updates am I good for?

Thanks

Robo,
A 7.x license works with 8.0.  Please see the FAQ under jukebox/purchase above.

Thanks JimH, I did read the FAQ:

If I have MJB 7 (and I'm good for 8 as you and the FAQ said) will it be good for MJB 9?

IF not:

If I go ahead and purchase MJB 8, will it be good for 9?

In other words, if I buy MJB 8 is that different than buying MJB 7?

I'm not a JRiver employee...

Historically speaking,
MJ6 license good for MJ6 and MJ7, but not MJ8.
MJ7 license good for MJ7 and MJ8 (no announcement beyond that).

Do you see a pattern?  I do, but it is not a guarantee.

While it's usually a pain to pay for upgrades, MJ is the first program that I've dealt with that allows the same license to work with more than one major version. That's pretty hip.

Is it still legit to install these "betas" on top of the already installed version or should we be doing a complete uninstall first?

Updating properties on songs is pretty slow. It used to be really fast a while ago (cant remember back to which version) but it's pretty slow now at updating the songs.

remove all id3v2 tags, set it up to remove id3v2 tags and only save id3v1 tags and it will be much faster.

Thanks 8.0.348 fixed the burn and play problems, but now my MP3 player (Bantam BA350)says the tracks are not valid MP3 files.

This was never a problem before 8.0.347 -
any suggestions?

Thanks

Mark,

How are you getting your files to the Bantam player?

Are the invalid files only recently burned files or all files?

Um, I quite like the id3v2 tags.
It used to be a lot faster even with me using the v2 tags.
Just figured you must have changed something in the code that resulted in it slowing down.

About Mark's problem, he'd have to get his tracks in there using their makes-garbage-look-good applet, BitExplor.

It can be done using an .m3u playlist created from MJ(that's how I do it) or he can drop tracks direct from his file structure--which is an incredible PITA, because BitExplor tends to lock up after a little exploration or complex directory structure. So he's probably going the playlist route. Correct me if I am erring here, Mark sir.

Strictly by the letter, the BA350 supposedly doesn't play anything but CBR MP3's and WMA. In practice I have never had a problem playing my MP3's, which are entirely VBR, although the time display is totally messed.

So, could be his files, could be something with the playlist creation.

This is scary, though. I'd like to hear more about this before I upgrade to .348 and find I can't use my Bantam anymore.

Severian,

Thanks for the note. Lets wait and here from Mark. We do not have a Bantam player here so I can not test and try to duplicate this.

No change in crashing on launch. Three builds in a row now where I cannot play and MP3 or wave file by opening it in the Windows Explorer.

If MJ is already running, I can play from Explorer just fine.

Hey Folks,

Severian is correct, I use the playlist function (exported as M3U) and BitExplorer (also correct that its a PITA program - but that's not MJ's fault :).

I don't know what other infor I can offer - other than the less-than-helpful "but it worked fine before the upgrade".

Actually, before the .347 upgrade.  Nothing worked with that one, the .348 is ALMOST back to normal.

Again, thanks for your help / suggestions.

Sounds like you're grabbing a track off a disc that made it into Media Library but isn't actually a track. What was the track when the playlist was made, and what does the playlist itself say now, viewed in a text editor?

Another feature/bug.

As mentioned, the updating of tracks is pretty slow (in specific the updating of the rating field).
The worst part though is that if I change to a different program to do something while MJ is updating the tracks, MJ keeps stealing the focus back with the updating window.

As you can imagine this is really annoying when I'm trying to do something else.

Crashing on ripping and playing - new problems with this build:

Everything has been running smoothly until this build, when the following has occured:

1.  New cd is placed in drive; click on CD, DVD, and Handhelds; click on drive with cd; MJ immediately shuts down. No error message is received. I don't know if this is a problem accessing CDDB or something else.

2.  Successfully rip several tracks before the system spontaneously reboots itself.

3.  System reboots itself during playing of cd.

Internal ASPI is unchecked; auto-play is disabled.

Also, there's a behavior that has persisted for several builds now, that I find really annoying.  If I use IE6 to check artist and album info during the file property editing process, when the file properties dialog closes, MJ hides behind IE6, rather than maintaining focus.

The reason my Bantam BA350 MP3 player won't play songs ripped since I upgraded to 8.0.34 is the file type is .cda after ripping.  I double checked my MJ settings and it's set to convert to wma files - but it's not.  Any suggestions?

Thx.

An addendum to my post above:

CPU utilization increases from 9-12% to 99-100% when ripping.  Playback causes utilization to climb to 75%.

Rebooting is occuring frequently.

I am having very similar problems as Shelley. When I insert a new CD while MJ is running, it crashes. No message, just locks up once it starts to search for MDDB titles. When I restart MJ it works fine, until I insert another CD and it tries to access MDDB.

Do you have the encoder option set as WMA when ripping?

Got a problem,
on the last two builds or so I cant uncheck the 'use generic driver' for cd writing which means that MJ isn't burning CD text any more and this is very annoying :(

I have a Plextor 124Tsi and it used to work before fine. You've changed something so I dont get cd text any more - back to Nero till it's fixed :(

I'm pleased to report that the system instability that I've experienced since installing this last build has been resolved and was not caused by MJ.  I changed cable providers yesterday and for whatever reason, the crashing stopped, the resource utilization is now down to where it should be, and my system is faster than ever.  Go figure!

Hopefully, the bug that causes MJ to lose focus upon saving of file properties to whatever program had been used prior to clicking Save, can be fixed in the next build.

Installed latest version but now can't play cd's. MJ finds the cd in the cddb, dispalys the tracks but when I press play the highlight moves to the next track and 'Buffering...' apears or sometimes 'Stopped' but will not play.

What gives?

JimH, I downloaded the file again, it says that it is 8.64MB in size on the MJ Home Page. Is that the correct size?  I ran the install again and still get the same error, It popps up as soon as the program starts and every time I click on anything.

Well I can't sleep so here something I noticed..

When the text isn't fully showing in the tree view, like artist or album name and you move your mouse over it, the tooltip shows the full name. This is fine but when it displays the text, it first shows the text on the previous item before updating the info.

What this does is it causes the tooltip to flicker. Maybe I'm just too picky. Maybe it's an OS/Video bug. Or naybe I should go back to sleep. Something to think about for v9 I guess.

Since installing .348 I have been unable to rip CDs..."Parameter out of range" error occurs when clicking "Rip" at the MP3 Encoder screen. Ripping was fine until .348 was installed.

So I'm trying to use the cool new play tree item method and I am getting a predictable and reproducable result, but not what I would've guessed!

I did this
>C:\Documents and Settings\Ram\Desktop\temp>"C:\Program Files\JRiver\MediaJukebox\mjextman.exe" /play "TREEPATH=Playlists®eggae"

This should do exactly what I want (play the reggae smart-list). However what it does is play all my tracks.

I tried manually setting the play list to one item and then running the above to see if maybe it was adding (net duplicates) to the current now playing list. Nope. I end up with 4600|PLS| tracks queued in no particular order.

I'm using this release of MJ8. Note that if I directly add the reggae smart list by right clicking it does what is expected (792 tracks).

Some further peeking and poking (&& !Basic) shows that it works correctly for static lists but not smart lists (like my genre filter or the top hits list).

thanks muchos
