Disabled OSD?
« on: November 06, 2007, 06:20:51 pm »

Can I disable the OSD in the detached display mode?  This is needed very much.

Bump.

I really have to ask strongly that someone find a solution to hiding the OSD.  Is this possible?  Is there any last minute "hack" I could try?  Can I modify the theater view skin?  It is vital that I find a solution to this as soon as possible.

Why is this such a "vital" requirement??

The best you could do is delete/rename OSD_Background.png to hide the OSD border but I'm not aware of any hack to hide the OSD entirely. It's certainly not possible thru any skin mods that I'm aware of.

This is being used in a live performance.  So it will be seen by the audience!  Yikes!  I will try the file.  I emailed Jim.  I may be willing to pay for a complete solution but I would need it by Wednesday evening.  This should be added as an option anyway:
[ x ] Enable OSD

Checked by default.

Although I've seen J River's hourly wage.  I may have to take up a third job.

I made a blank image and now it seems to be crashing.  Not sure what the problem is.

Why would the OSD show up unless the Detached Display is in focus and you hit one of the arrow keys?

When a video file is finished, it shows Stop.

Or when I click Stop, Stop shows up on the on screen display.

If I could change the border to be transparent, then it should just show text and I could make the text black (maybe) and at that point it may be fine because most of the video files end with a fade to black.

i think it is not possible to get that away. but it is possible to get the blue borders around stop that you see in noire, away.

How so?  I tried resaving (all transparent) the OSD image but then I was getting very strange behavior (almost crashing).

place this in the mainxml from the skin you use:
<OSD>
   <Data InternalMarginLeft="8" InternalMarginRight="8" InternalMarginTop="18" InternalMarginBottom="18" />
   <Colors />
   <Entry Name="Background" Bitmap="OSD_Background.png" NumberImages="1" Margins="15,14,15,14" />
</OSD>
and copy the osd-backgroud.png to the folder where the main is in the png is in folder C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Data\Default Skin Items. and make it transparant. or drop me a note and ill send you one.

edit: give the skin also an other name so it is not overwritten. rename or copy the folder and change the name at the top of the main.xml (second sentence)

Excellent!  Thank you for that!  I will try it when I get back.  Probably around 5 or 7 PM Central Time.

I tried it real quick.  It does remove the border (very helpful).  Now I just need to change the text color to black so it blends in.  Can I do this?  Or better yet: transparent text?  Then it would be 100% perfect.

Thanks for your help!

never tried that, but just checked. put in the colors part from the osd Text="000000"
so: <Colors Text="000000"/> instead of <Colors />
gets black. still gives the 'black' osd then.
dont know about transparent colours.

The text is not changing to black.  Is the display view the same as theater view stuff???  ie: if I'm using Noire in theater is that the skin that is used in detached display?

Any other ideas?  I'll try a few different things in the meantime.  Thanks for your help!

Skin effects does influence the text color.  So I set it to the darkest I can and the text becomes a grey color.

Still not quite black, though.  Any other ideas?  Gappie: did you actually see it working to get black text?  That is all I really need for a solution at this point.

I added this to the Noire XML file under FullSkins:

Quote
<OSD>
   <Data InternalMarginLeft="8" InternalMarginRight="8" InternalMarginTop="18" InternalMarginBottom="18" />
   <Colors Text="000000" />
   <Entry Name="Background" Bitmap="OSD_Background.png" NumberImages="1" Margins="15,14,15,14" />
</OSD>

The text is still white.  Yes, I restarted MC.  And I fixed the OSD image (the border no longer appears).  But the text is still white.  What might the problem be?

It appears to be working perfectly.  Thank you for your assistance!  I realized that display view is actually controlled by the MegaSkin or the main view (Ctrl + 1) and then I could fix it.  I was editing the wrong file (woops).
