Audio CDs Do Not Play Properly With Digital Playback Selected
« on: December 22, 2007, 09:45:28 pm »

With MC 12.400 installed on a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, I am unable to play audio CDs properly on the CD/DVW drive. Based on a forum search, I have verified that digital playback is selected in Windows Device Manager and that the IDE channels are set for Auto Detect/DMA if available. The CD playback audio is jerky with many crackles. When I deselect digital playback, the CD audio playback is fine. I also have MC 12.400 installed on my desktop and have selected digital playback.  CDs play fine on the desktop, no crackle or pop. I haven’t been able to determine another parameter that would cause the difference in playback results for the laptop and desktop when their digital playback settings are the same. I also don’t understand the relationship between the digital playback selection in MC 12.400 and the digital playback selection in Windows Device Manager. If the digital playback selection is made in device manager, must it also be made in MC 12 to obtain digital playback? When I play the CDs using, Windows Media Player 11, WinAmp 5.5, or Foobar2000 0.9.4.5, they play fine, but I have not found a selection in any of those players where I must consciously select digital playback. I’ve spent beaucoup hours trying to resolve this problem, including uninstalling and reinstalling MC 12 and also verifying that the firmware for the CD/DVDW drive is current and correct, but to no avail. Request troubleshooting assistance.
