Problems with mp3 encoders
« on: August 09, 2002, 09:47:20 am »

I am unable to rip or convert to mp3.  I've downloaded the plugin over a dozen times, each time it says "Package was successfully installed."  But when I try to convert from wma to mp3 I get an error "Cannot create plug-in 'MP3 Encoder'. Error 80040154".  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling media jukebox with no success.  Also the demo version still had about 20 days left but I've bought a license which I thought would solve the problem, it has not.  Please help.  I'm running on xp professional, p4 1.8 ghz, 768 mb ram, I'm not sure what the problem can be.  I've also looked in the plugins directory and have found the files enc_wma.dll, enc_External.dll and Enc_OGG.dll but no enc_mp3.dll which I would expect to find if the plugin was installed.

OK. Sounds like the plug-in isn't installing correctly. Are you running through a proxy server of some kind? Try opening IE and emptying the cache (Internet Options main page) and then delete all the files in the Temp directory.

Tried that, didn't work.  I've noticed that in the plugins section it shows both the mp3 and mp3vbr encoders.  Maybe somebody can zip and email me the dll's maybe this may help.  eddie@gophat.com

Try this workaround.

Use IE, visit the plug-ins page, right click on the download link, save to your desktop.  You will then have a .mjp file on your desktop.  Execute it. You can see what it does by opening it in notepad.

I don't know if this is involved, but doesn't MS have a licensing restriction that prevents converting wma into any other format?

Actually I couldn't even rip cd's into mp3's or convert from wav to mp3.  A very nice person emailed me the dll's which fixed the problem, I'd still like to figure out what exactly the problem is/was though.
