how to change video cover art over network.
« on: March 04, 2008, 03:13:49 pm »

ok I hope this is simple for you guys, here is my setup:

my htpc is a standalone pc, I only connect the network cable like once a week to upload new movies/shows etc.
anyways, when on the pc I have 2 folders, movie and tvshows. all movies go into the movies folder, and tv shows go into the tvshows folder obviously.
I don't use any of the 'tags' or anything, I just have a menu where I choose movies or tvshows, then choose the one I want to watch.
anyways I just figured out how to change the cover art. the only thing is it would be wayyyy easier to do this from the pc in the office, because the htpc has a keyboard/mouse combo and the mouse is broken and hard to use. is there anyway if they are on the same network to change the cover art for my stuff? I know about the folder.jpg file but that changes all the movies to one pic, I want them all to be different obviously. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to do it on the htpc every time which is a pain.

thanks.

If you are using Windows XP, try using the remote desktop connection.

start > program files > accessories > communications - remote desktop.

Connect your network cable to to your htpc (of course)

If you know your IP address, you can type it in the RD window, or use the computer name.
Once you connect, it's pretty much like you are sitting infront of the computer.

Here's some info
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx

I don't know if RD is available in XP Home.....

If not, there are several remote type programs out there.  like pcanywhere.
I've heard of some free ones, but I don't know the names offhand.

and don't let Microsoft fool you into thinking that you have to have a password to use RD.
Edit the group policy and you can connect w/out a password.

I hope this is what you were looking to accomplish!
Best of luck to ya!
