re-ripping songs, moving tags?
« on: March 22, 2008, 06:30:55 pm »

i would like to re-rip a number of songs at a higher bit rate.  how do i then move the tags from the old track to the new track?  so far i can only do it by manually copy and pasting each field from one to another then delete the old track.

or even better,

can i ask mc to 'update' a file from a cd at a higher bitrate? (without losing the tag info of course)

I update files all the time on a low volume basis, but my approach might solve your problem

1.  Rerip the files using exactly the same name as the old ones.  Save them to a different directory when you do so.
2.  paste the files on top of the old ones and overwrite them.
3.  open MC.  It will not know what has happened. (i.e., it will not know or recognize that files have been overwritten)
4.  select the overwritten files (hopefully you know which ones or can arrange it so you do know)
5.  do an "update tags from library".  This rewrites your tags with the info you want from your library (I don't think it overwrites the bitrate)
6.  run audio analyze on these (if you use that function).  Force it to analyze.

All done.

I recommend you test this on a single file or two first.
