iPod classic ... who controls the sorting?
« on: April 09, 2008, 03:45:49 am »

Hi Folks,

I have noticed with the tracks I have sync'd to my iPod that the articles are ignored in the artist list, etc.

For example "The Stranglers" and "Suede" are together, when I want "The Stranglers" to be grouped by the letter "T".

Is it MC doing this (even though I have the "Ignore Articles" option unchecked and they show correctly in the Tree) or is it the iPod doing this?

I think it's the iPod itself. I noticed that (and actually liked it) when I was only using iTunes to sync.

It is the iPod. It has been there since at least the third revision of the iPod (the heat sensitive one, with button on top).

Yeah, it's definitely the iPod but I found this little tool which had an option that seemed to have sorted the problem:

So I guess it's either a flag/option or it depends on how the iPod DB is written to.   Either way it's something that MC should be able to do since other tools can do it :D

I take back what I said.   It's the application writing the iPod database which controls the sorting.   I have just found another tool that allowed me to set the album names to [YYYY] - [Name] which is great as that is exactly how I have my albums stored on my fileserver.
