Moving library with playlists
« on: June 14, 2008, 08:22:30 pm »

I've got 12,000 files on an external hard drive and use a laptop to manage it.

Want to move everything to a new laptop.

I did figure out how to move the library ... backed up the library on the old laptop, restored it on the new laptop, and imported the files off the external hard drive.  That brought over all my music and my ratings, but ...

None of my playlists came over with it.

What am I doing wrong?

You are importing.

Obviously your external drive has a different drive letter on your new PC. The Auto-Import tool removes the missing files from the library (and thus from the playlists too) and imports the files from a different location as new library entries.

You can:
- change the drive letter on the OS level before restoring the library.
or if you don't want to do that:
- fix the file paths inside MC's library.

I have explained the latter here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=47009.0
