Chapter based Audio and Video files
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:05:12 pm »

Are there any advanced/chapter based containers for audio (and video) that MC fully supports?

By fully supports I mean
  • MC can read, display and jump to chapters in a file. (I'll settle for this for the time being)
  • MC can (optionally?) identify different objects in a file and deal with them as individual items (Cover art, description files, etc)
  • MC can write tags back to those files, and alter the chapter description

I know there are certain containers that MC has a degree of support for - mainly in the video arena however.

I may even be trying the right things, but just doing it wrong. I've tried using mkvmergui to create an album with chapters - which works, but MC is unaware of the chapters. Should I be adding them as individual files into the matroska container? Should I be trying the NUT or OGG/OGM containers instead?

My end goal is to have Albums treated as albums, i.e. ALL the media from a CD or DVD (or even photo album) held within one container.

Any advice appreciated.
