Media Center 10 Vista Install error
« on: July 28, 2008, 02:40:49 pm »

Hello All,

I hope someone can help me with this problem. Just got a new PC & I'm trying to install MC 10. Previously MC 10 was installed on an XP machine with no problems. Now I've upgraded to a Duo Core Quad machine running Vista Home Premium (64 bit.) 2 problems I'm having. 1st when I click on the desktop icon to open MC 10, after installation,  I get this error message,

"This version of Media Center must be activated by running it once with at least Power User privileges.

After this activation, Media Center can be run with only guest privileges.

(Unactivated component :C:\Windows\system32\mcmimeman.exe)"

I've gone to windows explorer to the following path, C:\Windows\system32\ & there is NO file name of mcmimeman.exe ?

2nd problem, after I click 'okay' to the above error message (that is my only option to the error message,) & go into the program & create a new playlist that works fine. But, when I exit the program & re enter MC 10 & go to open the previously created playlist, it is gone?? Doesn't show under playlists.

Anyone know what I can do to rectify this problem? Any help would greatly appreciated....

Oh, I'm also using DFX audio Enhancement too...

I think there's no guarantee that MC10 will run on Vista, on account of being quite old where as MC12 definitley does.

That said, try right clicking on the MC icon and selecting 'Run as administrator'.
Once you've done it once you may find you don't need to do it again.

MC 10 pre-dates Vista by several years.

You'll have to upgrade to MC 12 for full Vista + UAC support.

You may find some other things you like if you give it a try.
