What are the pros and cons of using single file with cue?

I've never really understood the advantage of ripping to a single file.

A secure ripper like Media Center plus a lossless format (and now even LAME MP3) gives perfect gapless playback.

It really works REALLY gaplessly on portable devices that support cuesheets.

That said, there is only one that I know of (and I use it).
