[[/b]

This player is a special version of JRiver Media Center.  It gives you access to 4,000,000 tracks from all major labels and most independants.  It has links to purchase high quality MP3 files.

More screenshots

[Performer is now part of JRiver Media Center]

Instructions

You can download and use the player without signing up.  You'll just get 30 second tracks.  When you sign up (upper right corner of player), you will be able to play full length tracks streaming at 128Kbps.  The MP3 purchases are at higher quality -- 320Kbps.  Not all tracks are yet available as MP3 -- more are coming soon.

The e-commerce is ours so we stand behind it 100%.

Please use this board for any comments or problems.

I know we've asked before, but now that it's out, what's the official stance on international subscriptions?

Officially, we're not able to sell internationally, but you're in Kansas, right? ;)  If it doesn't work, let us know.

I forgot to mention that there is a 14 day free trial (one time only).

You have a choice of two services:

1.  Unlimited streaming on your PC or any PC where you have the player installed.  One connection at a time.  $12.95 per month.

2.  Same as 1, plus unlimited use of a Windows Media type Portable Media Player (but not Zune).  $15.95 per month.

You can switch from one type to another any time.

Will this be available as a plugin in vanilla MC? I would prefer that.
Looks promising, by the way.

Is it better to distribute it via a new player rather than just bundling it with says the jukebox and the media player? If it was distributed with the jukebox it would get out to a lot of people simply by auto update. Also, the brand Media Center|Jukebox is probably better known than Performer Media Center.
I am not arguing against your decision I just want to understand why a new player is needed.
Cheers,

It has a different feature set.

It is focused on the store and on streaming.

We're not ready to broadcast it to the world.

The Beatles...

They are not there.  Are the rights owned by Sony & Michael Jackson? Are they not playing nice?

Why is this a separate application and not just a feature that can be enabled within Media Center?

It seems like J River is being spread too thin with media jukebox, media player, and performer media center.

Can we expect future versions of JRiver Media Center to include Performer features (the service)?

I currently use Rhapsody and I love its integration with other devices, like my TIVO and my Logitech Squeezebox.  I also have an annual subscription rate with those services that are cheaper than currently offered by JRiver.  Why no annual rate option?

I know that media Center is an alternative to Windows Media Center, but is there ever a potential for a Media Center plug-in to bring this stuff within Windows Media Center.  We have a Vista PC that we use with the remote for movies, and I keep waiting for someone (JRiver or Rhapsody) to come up with the media center interface for a subscription service.

With respect to being spread thin, here are some other players you may not know about:

www.partnerplayers.com

In all, we've built around 50 players.  Not all are public (yet).

Is there any kind of upgrade or switchover for existing Performer Digital subscribers?  I decided to try out Performer Digital for a while when I found out your were getting ready to launch this.  Should I just drop my PD subscription and then re-subscribe to yours?

Thanks,

There's no way to convert.  Just cancel the existing subscription and subscribe to the new service.  Thanks for doing it.

Indeed. I'm willing to try this, but I don't need another media player application on my PC. So I'll pass unless and until MC 13 gets this integrated.

I downloaded this build

You're very right about both. I had Musicmatch before it was yahoo music. When it was musicmatch. It was really good and they actually had a good software for burning and ripping. I love it. Yet yahoo had to get involved and ruin it. I'm so glad we have J River now.

Are there any hopes for an MC13 integration? I just hate using more than one app for my HTPC.
And will it be, or is it, available for European users?

As an integrated plugin where I can listen to my music and have it provide links to streamable/purchasable tracks similar to the one I'm listening to (even if just by artist) that I don't have it would be awesome. As a separate application I don't see myself ever using it.

i will be honest i love the j river jukebox and swear by it. but the music service is so weak (i dont know if its beta or not) i would have to be crazy to switch to this instead of zune or ipod. i will not even begin talking about the problems way to many (i just used it for about only 2 minutes).  I hope you work on this and i know j river can make it great  :D

Here are 5 problems after only 30 second use
1. cover art is bad quality
2. songs are not the same quality as itunes maybe b/c they use another format
3. No popularity rank (ex: most popular son on that album)
4. no user interaction. people can say if the liked the album or not
5. service is slow

Maybe you could give it 10 minutes of your time before you make a decision, but....

iTunes doesn't have a subscription service.  With Performer, you can play non stop for a month for the cost of 14 iTunes tracks.

Popularity is in the mind of the beholder.

Slow?  Where do you live?

1. I think they are ok for the purpose.
2. Its streaming, but I also hope they will up the bitrate a bit...even from 128 to 192 makes a good very difference and 256 almost noone will hear a difference with the original. 128kb is just not fun for serious listening.
3. / 4. My guess is those things are in the works...basics first.
5. The best thing about it imho...search is very fast and playback stability is very solid.

6. May I add you get the best music player and manager for your offline collection for "free" as a bonus  8)

I have subscribed to Rhapsody and now ZUNE Pass.  Here are my comments on those and some questions about this one.

1. With ZUNE I have a combination of downloaded subscription files w/DRM and my own ripped files.  This creates confusion when trying to rip a CD since the DRM subscription songs can't be burned.
q:  with PMC are the streamed files organized differently than my JR MJukebox (which contains all my FLAC).   Would I use the same player for both?

2. I love the most popular or most played track info because when I want to sample a new album I like to start with the popular songs.

3. ZUNE has AMG artist info and album reviews integrated to a degree.  With JR MJukebox I can easily get the AMD web window which might work better.....I do like the content since subscription is a good way to explore.

4. ZUNE pass has WMA 196kps (Rhapsody 160-something) which sounds fine in my car and on my PC speakers but I don't like it on my HiFi.
q:  is there possibility of 256 mp3 for PMC in the future or do the label frown on high rez?

5. The other services have a lot of artists and a lot of new releases.  So far the hit rate on my searches is good enough to be of value---especially the new albums being reviewed in Rolling Stone.    There are also albums with key tracks not available and sometimes an album gets pulled.   With a rental mindset this is ok (especially since I buy a lot of the CDs I like).
q;   is the content similar to these other services?  Similar artists and tracks?  I assume the labels have a pretty similar availability to all the services.

6. The other services have a sharing capability...ie. 3 plays when sending a song over the internet to a friend's player or beaming a song.   This is a great idea but I don't know anyone that uses these subscription players....just itunes and Microsoft Media Player.
  q: any sharing capability?

7. ZUNE pass gives 10 free downloads (no DRM)  free per month as part of their subscription.  Any thought of extending something similar?

At the moment I use ZUNE Pass for my Zune and PC speaker listening.    I use JRiver MJukebox for my HiFi PC-jukebox of FLACs. perhaps there is value in using PMC for both?  I'd have to switch back away from Zune for portable.   When I had a FORD with SYNC and USB connection the ZUNE pass and player was great for car use.  My next car will probably won't have anything special for Zune so I could use an ipod.

8.  For purchase and HiFi use I like lossless (I use FLAC but could use other formats).   MusicGiants sells lossless/hi rez.  Any thoughts on future sales of lossless files?  mp3 256 is more compatible and probably high enough for some downloading, but if i was to switch from CD to download I would want lossless and ideally a lot of content tagged that works well with the player.  For now I sample with subscriptions and buy on CD.

I had a dream that now that Spotify are opening up their API:s allowing others to make players that MC might integrate that service. I thought it highly unlikely though, since Spotify is (thus far at least) a European affair only. But I guess there is no need for me to brood on the subject matter since this Performer service really makes it impossible ;).

A plugin might be possible but I am not sure if jriver would allow it. I like both services. I organize my spotify artist links in mc.

Just dragg an artist, album or playlist link from spotify in a folder. Point mc's browser to them and use import. Or setup the folder as part of your auto import folders in mc.

Confused now...I dragged an album link into a folder (saved as an internet shortcut), tried to import but MC doesn't recognize...am I missing something?

Did you do the second step, import them into mc's database? After import you just select one in mc and press play that will launch spotify and point it to the contents of the link info. If spotify is already running it will just point spotify to the contents of the link.

(Sorry for the off topic maybe this thread could be split to its own? ie How to use spotify links with mc.)

All MP3s on PMC are 320kbps except for those from one major label; these are 256kbps.

Does the Embarq player have any advantages over Performer?  They appear to be almost identical ie 12.95 and 4 million tracks.  I have enjoyed your classic rock section.  Alas I couldn't find this cd on Performer or anywhere.  My vinyl is too worn out to rip.  Paul Simon Interpreted by Sound Symposium.

The catalog is the same.  The Performer MC player is based on MC13.  The Embarq player is based on MC11.

The catalog changes from time to time, so you could try Sound Symposium again later.

With MediaGiants filing bankruptcy, it seems like a great opportunity for Performer Media Center to offer high resolution downloads and streams.

I subscribe and work fain and i have some question.

1. How to add one Album in Playing Now without select files with Shift+Click ?
ex: i search for "michael jackson" and appear many album. i want to listen only "Thriller" (1993) who contain 9 songs. for now i select each file and choose "add to playing now". i think is nice to double click on cover art and plays all album :)

2. Each song have option to download in .wma format at 128kbps and other option to buy with 1 dollar to online store.
Wma is free of charge?
What is the difference compared with one dollar version, only high bitrate ?

3. Import in to library don't work for me

I dont buy enough music to warrant a monthly subscription. plus, its another program to install and go through. if the music purchased on here can be placed inside MC like any regular audio file, except maybe a slightly different background to distinguish it from songs on your computer, i dont think im going to get this. It doesnt bring anything new to the table.
