I'm trying to follow the guide here:

I realize it is a bit different in MC 12 than these instructions

But I get to step 4 and the section "Hit the "Advanced" button and then the little drop down arrow in the "search" box.  For the first rule of this list, go to "Add Rule," then "Advanced," which brings up a list of all the current library fields.  Notice that the two new fields you created -- "John iPod" and "Mary iPod" (only with YOUR names) -- are available in this list.  This is John's list, so select the "John iPod" field"

I don't see the IPOD field I created in the previous steps under Rules. What am I doing wrong?

That guide is out of date.  You should be able to plug in an iPod and sync it.  Try dragging a couple of files to it first.  Make sure your version of MC is current.  Newer iPods may require MC13.
