why can't I play CD's or use MJ 8?
« on: July 22, 2002, 09:11:01 pm »

First, the MJ8 problem, which might solve my other problem: when I install it and attempt to launch it, I get some kind of error (expired?) that remains hidden behind the loading window so that I have to use Ctl-Alt-Del to stop the launch process.

The MJ7 problem that I have is that I can't play CD's - it plays 3 or 4 seconds, then skips to the next song. I'm using digital playback because I don't get any audio at all with analog.
I've been all through the settings, FAQ and users manual, but haven't seen anything that seems to address this presumably simple thing.

Hi,

1. You could try to uninstall it - and manualy delete the JRiver keys in the registry (HKEY_CURENT_USER > Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software).

Then check that you've the latest version - 8.0.333 - available here : ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox80333.exe
and start a clean installation.

2. Check your ASPI layers : download the latest ASPI package from Adaptec (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppdetail.html?sess=no&prodkey=ASPI-4.70) - there you'll find full info about how to install it  and check it.

Hope it will help.

Yves.

Oh, great. Today MJ7 won't even spin up the CD. I swear I didn't do anything since last night. Maybe I'll try Yves' suggestions.

Yves:

Thanks - I did the uninstall and registry cleanup, then installed 8.0.333, and it looks like it works OK. Now to try a rip...
