Compilations: How to Handle Live Concert Within
« on: January 15, 2009, 01:46:41 pm »

I've got a couple of "best of" CDs with live performances on 1 of the several disks which, at a different time, was released as a stand-alone album.  How do you folks handle these instances?  Ideally, I'd like to create a 'pseudo' album... or an alias album... but I don't believe it's possible.  The only thing I could figure out to use is a simple playlist.  Is there another way?

Thanks, I'll read through it.  Fortunately, I've only got a handful of these situations.

For live tracks, I use the following convention:

Album: Yes Live
Track: Starship Troooper - this track appears on a studio album, compilations, and lots of live albums

So on this album I rename it

Track: Starship Trooper (Yes Live) [live]

I also have a user field 'Live Recording' which would be set to yes.

This means this version of the track is now unique and the album it is on is identified.  This allows me to rate this version individually, scrobble it to LastFM as a unique track, and list all recordings within LastFM if I want to etc.

Cheers,

Mark
