an odd menu bug
« on: July 20, 2002, 06:51:03 am »

I'm guessing this will be another problem unique to me...

The menus don't work consistently.  It seems about every other time, clicking on the top menus does nothing, and I have to click again.  I click on a song, and then click on a menu - and it works fine.  I repeat that, and it doesn't work again.

I tested this on mega-me, properties, media editor, and download manager.  This problem occurs on every menu, except for the Help menu in Properties, and all the menus in the download manager.

I have Media Jukebox on another PC, and I have no menu problem there.

Anyone else get this?

How about skins?  Same problem skinned or not?

How about mouse?

What software is running?

I'm looking for something you have in common.

Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse.  I was thinking it was related to the fact that I have to press the play button twice on my keyboard - or the change I had to make to the ini file to get the Logitech keyboard to work with MJ...  but I guess not, since scodan has MS

I wonder if it's related to the recent change where the top menus would clear if clicked on a second time...  My menu problem occurs only when clicking the same menu twice.  For example, if I use the Tools menu, and then click on Tools again, then the menu won't appear.  If I use different menus in succession, everything works fine.

I've tried disabling the skins, and that had no effect.  I also tried the following mega-me skins - Battalion 23, Green Eyes, Tekno, and Z.  Again, nothing.

I couldn't find any menus in the mini-me skins.

Maybe it would help if I tried to explain the problem more clearly.

The problem is repeatable and predictable.
It affects all the menu tabs that have menus (and excludes the Help tab in Media File Properties which does not have a menu).

It locks up the last menu opened.  For example, if I select Settings/Options/OK, and then back on mega-me, I click on Settings again, the menu won't open.  Clicking on Settings again opens the Settings menu.

After Settings/Options/OK, if I click on any other menu, the menu will open.

That said, I'll install the latest MJ release sometime in the next week, hoping that the reinstallation will clear the problem... (unless you suggest otherwise).

I'm sorry, but I have to say I think the problem is not just MJ.  It may be some crazy conflict with another program though.

Are you running any MJ plugins -- like Albumview?  Or Web Remote?  DFX?

Try uninstalling them, one at a time.

I don't do much w/ MJ beyond organizing and listening.

Soon after installing a recent version of MJ, I downloaded a bunch files from your website.

In the plug-in manager, I see track info, visualizations, MJ DSP, Wide & Dynamix, several encoders, portable drives, several inputs, and x10mp3.

Doesn't the menu problem sound like it's related to the recent menubar fix?  I can imagine that MJ8 thinks the last menu is still open, and so it interprets the next click on that menu to be an instruction to close it.
