Windows Media Connect? (or share protected WMA)
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:35:22 pm »

If I understand correctly JRiver's Performer Digital services uses protected WMA for downloadable tracks. Currently only Windows media connect allows to play them among many PCs, and the only WMC player is... Windows Media Player.
It would be really nice if MC could support Windows Media Connect and play protected WMA stored on another PC.
It looks like the technology is not ground breaking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Media_Connect).

I've asked about this before.

It doesn't have to be supporting Windows Media Connect - certainly the technology behind streaming DRMed content over UPnP is pretty well documented by Microsoft and is a part of the DLNA standard (albeit seemingly an optional part of it!)

This is the one reason why I don't use MC's UPnP server - I'd love to, but it's just not an option for me with so much WMADRM content.

Incidentally, WMC isn't the only server that supports WMADRM - there's also Jamcast.
