Ripping CD's in a burner yields better results?
« on: July 17, 2002, 01:09:33 pm »

I have several CD's that had scratches on them. I have three computers. Two of them have CD drivers, and one has a CD drive and a CD burner in it. When I tried to rip the badly scratched CD's in the normal CD drives, I got pops and drop outs. But, in the burner, the CD ripped perfectly. I found out my son had the same experience with several scratched CDs he tried ripping in his home computers. He uses his burner to rip CDs and gets better results. Just thought I would pass this on, since I have been able to confirm the results a number of times. The CD drives are all good quality drives. My burner is a Yamaha, and my sons is a Phillips. So, if you have a scratched CD that won't rip well, give it a try in your burner, unless your burner is your only drive.

I've made the same experience with my Yamaha CRW2100 burner

That's the same burner I have. I use it now to rip all my CDs since the results are more dependable than a regular CD drive.
