Portable install Vista issues? ..... SOLVED
« on: May 10, 2009, 04:27:13 pm »

Hi

My main usage of MC is a portable install running off an external HDD. I normally use this at work on a PC running Windows Server 2003.

One thing that I've noticed is that when I take the HDD home and run it MC off my Vista box, any changes to the portable library I make don't seem to stick. i.e. I add mp3s to MC's Media Library and it seems fine. But then when I take the external HDD in to work the files that I added aren't in the Library. Sure, they're on the disk but not in the Library and not in my playlists.

I also added edited playlists last night at home and I've noticed this morning (at work) that the changes to the playlist didn't stick either.

I'm not sure if this is a Vista issue or multiple PC issue. I shall try plugging in to other machines here at work and see if my changes persist.

I'm running portable here since it first started and have not experienced that issue, and I use Vista.
What happens if you make changes on Vista, close the MC and then reopen it?

If I make changes, close MC and reopen it my changes haven't persisted.

Today I tried it on an XP and a Vista machine at work and this bug does NOT happen. It only happens on my home machine.

e.g. right click on playlists, add playlist, name it "test". Playlist appears.
Close MC and open it again and playlist is not there.

Is there any logging or something I can do to try figure this out?

Fixed it... I need to right click the Media Center exe and choose Run as Administrator. Then it behaves itself.
