How can I get the Microsoft MCE remote to work?
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:36:58 am »

Hi,

I love the Media Center software but I cannot work out how to get the remote control working. I have a Microsoft MCE v2 remote:

I'm running an Aspire One netbook with XP Home. I've installed the Microsoft drivers and the HID remote software from here:
http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm

Edit: I should add the remote works in the HID software. I can see the ID number come up when I press a button on the remote. And It allows me to map buttons to certain key strokes etc. So at least I know the drivers work.

But how do I get the remote to work in MC13?

Many thanks,
Adrian.

It may work without any software installed, but if it doesn't, it's probably not currently possible.

Be sure you try the remote with Theater View, using the Obsidian skin.  The latest build is 13.0.171.

I am running that latest version.

I don't mind purchasing another remote if I know it will work. Is there an official list of remotes that are known to work?

Also what remote plugin do I need to activate? IRman or something similar and USB-UIRT are my options. Neither are currently recognising my MCE remote.

Many thanks!!

The remote works perfectly straight out of the box with the excpeiton of installing drivers on XP.  Have a read of http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Supported_Remote_Control_Devices#Media_Center_Edition_.28MCE.29_Remote_Control_and_Keyboard

You may need to remove the HID sw....

In the registry there is a key for keyboard reassignment MCE remote. Here an example:

For example you can reassign a GREEN BUTTON key and make a shortcut to start JRMCE with these keys. Also it is useful
http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/User_Defined_Global_Keyboard_Shortcuts With it it is possible to adjust any action on any key.
