USB DVB-T no TV channels found
« on: July 05, 2009, 05:53:04 am »

Hello

I just got a USB DVB-T unit that I have played around with for a couple of days. It works great with the bundled software but I got curious if I could use it in Media Center 13.

If I click Television -> Configure -> Settings my DVB-T unit is shown in Devices as "USB DVB-T TV Tuner (digital)".  But when I run a channel scan it doesn’t find any channels at all. Like I said before it works with the bundled software so I can’t be the TV reception, I even bought an extra indoor antenna.

I'm using the latest build of Media Center 13.0.171.

Any hint or help is much appreciated

Thanks
Hans

It could be frequency table issue.  Which country are you in?  If your country is not already among those we have frequency tables for, we will need to find the frequencies used in your country and add them.

Thanks for a quick reply Yaobing

I'm in Sweden, and in the dialog window for Scan channels I can find Sweden among all the countries that are available. So I assume that there is a frequency table added for Sweden already.

I also noticed that its possible to add channels manualy. Perhaps that would help me? But I dont know all of the settings I need to fill in like Network ID, Service ID, TSID, Original NID etc.

I checked.  There is indeed a Sweden frequency table in DVB Frequencies.xml.  The table is kind of short, but I assume that is correct.

You have to know those parameters in order to add any channel manually.

Please email me a log, showing your attempt to scan for channels.  See this topic for details on sending logs.

Thanks for the advice about the DVB Frequencies.xml. I had a look into it and found Sweden.

But I also found a channel and frequency list at a Swedish site with all the current available channels. I'm not much of a programmer but with a little logic thinking I managed to update my DVB Frequencies.xml file and it worked perfectly. I almost felt like a hacker  ;D

Perhaps it would be a good idea to include these frequencies in the next build of Media Center? If you are contact with the developers you can forward this list to them:

<Country Name="Sweden" CountryCode="46" NetworkType="DVB-T" Bandwidth="8">
