VST Plugins and Video

This may be stupid and impossible, but I'm gonna ask anyway...

Is there anyway to get a VST Plugin to work with a video file?  Specifically, I'd like to be able to use the Voxengo SPAN plugin (a cool, free Frequency Analyzer plugin) to check a couple of my video files.  As it is, it works great in the DSP Studio when playing music files back, but I can't get it to work at all with video (obviously).

I'm just wondering if there is a way to do this through the DirectShow filters, through Quicktime (specifically these files are MOV files), or some other method I'm not thinking of...

The only way I have figured out how to route the sound from movies through a VST plugin is to use Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) as the output in MC (or other player). Then you can route to a VST plugin program such as Reaper. Add the VST plugin into Reaper and set the output in Reaper to your default output. Now you can route the audio from the movie to the plugin and out to the speakers. VAC and Reaper have free trials, but VAC keeps audibly saying "Trial" about every 30 seconds. You can also try to use VSTHost instead of Reaper and JACK instead of VAC.
