mixer-record sound-ram rip
« on: July 10, 2002, 09:03:25 am »

I have a 27 minute live jam on ram[real format] 32kps that i want to keep.
Instead of Total Recorder,i want to try the 'record sound' from Media Jukebox.
Which format do i have to choose?
I KNOW a ram 32 kps is not a good quality. But i just want to keep it,not only to stream it.

Listening to Reva le sheva- jam in New York ram 32kps on Media Jukebox

Ex Dead Heads|PLS|born again Moises playing a klezmer\Dead\word\mystical-kabale music in other words ..grass music...

Choose "Mixer" for recording source, then go into the Windows mixer control (see "Line-in recording tips" under Help on this page if you don't know how to do this) and select "Wave" for recording source if it's there, otherwise select "Sum" or "All" but make sure microphone is muted or disconnected. Set volume of the recording source (in windows mixer) to around 25% to start with. Try a sample recording and listen to results. Adjust volume to get best quality.

Thank you!
If i had know to get such a helpfull answer,i would not had spend around 30 minutes to find out before posting.
I was almost ok,just the 'microphone' was not muted

Now ,what i do not know. Before recording,i have to set encoding
If this stream a mp3 128kps,easy ,i set encoding at mp3 128 kps

But here i have a ram at 32 kps.I know i cannot get better quality, but i do not want to lose some with a wrong encoding setting
So what is 'the less bad' encoding to set?

If any format can give even a very little improvement,i do not care about the size of the file

I don't think it's possible to get improvement in the sound quality, but to avoid loss of quality you might want to record in ape or wave format. If you want smaller files just go WMA at 96 or 128 or something like that.

just my 2 cents on the thorny "which encoder" question...
