Ripping CDs trouble
« on: September 27, 2009, 05:21:35 pm »

Some, not all of the CDs I rip are getting hung up (I can hear the dvd burner spin & rest continuously) and if left alone, will eventually rip but some tracks can take up to 20 minutes. An album could be very long.
Is it my DVD/CD burner?
or
Is it MC14?
or
Is it because a CD is scratched?
some CDs rip easily.

and while it is working so hard to read the CD, i cant jump to another page in MC without the media center is not responding...etc.
i opt to wait until the program responds.
my guess is it could be scratches on the CDs, but wondering if anyone else is having similar problems.

i will try & rip a troubled CD in another program & see if that is easily done.

windows vista ultimate 64bit
inte core i7 -2.79GHz
6.00gb ram
SAMSUNG DVD Writer Model SH-S223

thanks j

I've seen this with damaged CDs when "Secure Rip" is enabled. Secure rip will try to verify that the ripped music is transferred properly (not sure exactly what sort of data comparison is used, wiki might have something). So if you've got a damaged/dirty/scratched CD it will continually try to rip and re-rip until you either get a proper rip or the rip process quits after too many retries.

If you try ripping with a program that doesn't do secure rips, then you'll most likely get a quicker rip that results in a file you don't want to listen to. I've not actually experimented to verify this behavior, so do report back what you find with the other program.
